Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present and aware of your current experiences. Taking the time to do a mindfulness activity can help reduce stress, connect our minds to our bodies, and help create compassion for yourself and others. Mindfulness can be as simple as taking a pause in the day or but immersing yourself in mediation.

Tomorrow we will have a simple mindfulness activity to try!

A child’s foundation for mental health starts with you! Children start out very dependent on their parents and it’s important to foster those relationships but also give them the opportunity to grow. This growth is how children will learn to be independent and be able to succeed in their adult lives.

Social connections are important for our mental health. These connections help us to feel loved, seen and supported. However, the World Health Organization reported that about 1 in 6 people around the world experience loneliness. This issue affects people of all ages but especially youth. While this issue is very broad, there are some simple steps in everyday life we can use to feel more connected and seen.

Tomorrow we will talk about self-esteem and confidence!

Technology can be a great tool, but it can also present children with a new set of challenges when learning social-emotional skills. Children and teens today spend a lot of time in digital spaces. This means that their identities are scrutinized by others all over the world. It can also make it more challenging to form relationships or connections in the real world.

Tomorrow we will talk about how loneliness and social isolation can affect mental health.

Sometimes social emotional learning takes place outside the home in places where children interact with each other. To set your child up for success try some of these options at home! These ideas can help your child learn to express their feelings in a healthy way and how to interact with others.

Check back tomorrow for how technology can affect social-emotional learning!

What is Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)?
SEL is a method that teaches children of all ages how to understand and feel their emotions while also learning empathy for others. The five main areas of SEL can help children make positive and responsible decisions, achieve their goals, and build positive relationships with others.

Tomorrow we will discuss how to build these skills!
