Today, Hillsboro Medical Center is celebrating four decades of bringing convenient, reliable breast cancer screenings directly to communities across Oregon. 🚐💕

Early detection saves lives. As we recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are proud to continue making preventive care more accessible with fast, convenient mammograms aboard Dottie, our state-of-the-art mobile unit.

Washington County District Attorney's Office Celebrates Five-Year Anniversary of Cribs for Kids Partnership:

October is Safe Sleep Awareness Month, and the Washington County District Attorney’s Office and the Washington County Child Abuse Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) are celebrating the five-year anniversary of a partnership with the national Cribs for Kids program. Since its inception in 2021, this program has helped provide free Cribette Kits and one-on-one education to more than 1,600 income-eligible families residing in Washington County.

Working in close partnership with the OHSU Doernbecher Injury Prevention Program, Washington County Maternal and Child Health, Hillsboro Medical Center, and other local hospitals, this program is designed to provide a free portable crib, infant sleep sack, and education for families in need. Public health or injury prevention professionals also provide safe sleep education in English or Spanish for eligible families.

Measles is spreading in Oregon, with more than 50 reported cases so far.

Measles spreads very easily through the air when a person who is sick coughs, sneezes or breathes.

The best protection is the MMR vaccine, which protects against measles, mumps and rubella. Two doses provide the best protection.

What you can do:
1️⃣ Check your child’s vaccination record to see if they have received the MMR vaccine. Most children get their first dose at 12-15 months and their second dose at 4-6 years. Because measles is spreading, some children may be able to get their MMR vaccine doses earlier than usual.
2️⃣ Ask your child’s clinician at their next checkup if an early dose is right for them. 🩺

Watch for signs of measles:
• Fever • Runny nose • Cough • Red eyes • Sore throat

A blotchy rash appears later. It usually starts on the face or hairline and then spreads to the rest of the body.

If you are worried your child may have measles, please call your clinician's office.

Thank you to Dr. Derek Bond for throwing out today’s ceremonial first pitch! A Hillsboro native and Glencoe High School graduate, Dr. Bond returned home after completing his orthopedic surgery training to care for the community that helped shape him.

We’re proud to have Dr. Bond on the Hillsboro Medical Center Orthopedics team and proud to be the official health care provider of the Hillsboro Hops.
