❌ We rarely give home home exercises at Functional Physical Therapy that require equipment. Controlling and moving your body weight is almost always enough to improve mobility, increase neuromuscular control, and reduce pain with everyday activities!

Performing this tricep press at the counter top instead of a dumbbell will work to increase multiple muscle groups. This variation works to increase:

➖ Activation and mobility of the scapula, increasing shoulder mobility.

➖ Core muscle activation, allowing you to maintain better posture with walking, sitting, and performing all everyday activities.

➖ Strength of the quadriceps and hamstrings, just like you do while squatting and lunging.

💬 And many more!

📲 Give this variation a try at home, and if you still need additional progressions to improve your everyday mobility, contact Functional Physical Therapy!

⬅️ New Video Drop Wednesday: Improving Ability To Control Lateral Motion In Redcord ➡️

This exercise is called shoulder adduction in Redcord, and it can improve the mobility of your shoulder blade into all planes of motion. And through fascial connections, it can work even more parts of your body than just your shoulder blades!

Moving your body outside of your base of support (or where your feet are planted) is a key part of functioning everyday. This lateral movement is something that is not often trained at the gym. It is also a movement that many give up as they age. But let’s keep moving laterally because it will help to:

➖ Improve the strength and stability of your gluteus medius to support your hips and core.

➖ Maintain the ability for your mind to connect with the muscles keeping you upright if you loose your balance.

➖ Decrease tension and potential injury when cutting and changing direction while playing a sport or chasing after your children.

💬 And much more!

📲 If you have given up on moving laterally and are starting to feel the effects during your everyday activities, contact Functional Physical Therapy to get yourself back on track!

🔥 New Video Drop Wednesday: The Ring Of Fire 🔥

⭕️ While the object between the patient’s legs is actually called The Magic Circle, we often refer to it at Functional Physical Therapy as the “Ring of Fire”! This piece of Pilates equipment can be a game changer when exercising. It can also be an important addition for home exercises.

⭕️ In this position, the ring of fire directly affects the adductors (or inner thighs), but the effects can be felt throughout the body. Some of these include:

⬆️ Increasing the activation of the deep core and pelvic stabilizers, decreasing compensatory movement patterns.

⬆️ Increasing the activation of the diaphragm and intercostals, improving your breathing pattern and ability to take deeper breathes.

⬆️ Improving mobility and decreasing tension of the neck while both sitting and standing.

⬇️ Decreasing painful movement patterns and pain with exercise by increasing the amount of muscles available to perform the activity!

📲 This is a simple to use and relatively cheap piece of equipment! If you feel ready use the ring of fire with your workouts and reduce your pain, contact Functional Physical Therapy!
