We said bye to Dani today, who has been with us for 2 weeks! She is a 4th year veterinary student and plans to work with dogs and cats, but she is also an equestrian and has a background in the hunter world. We hope to see her around barns, even if it's not medically. She did a great job with us and is sad to go back inside for her next rotation.

Huge thank you to NC State Veterinary Medicine and its equine internal medicine team for making sure Dr. Cathy's OG heart horse is feeling his best! Turbo aka T has some known cardiac changes, but is holding steady. We're lucky to have a great referral hospital right here in town. T is an excellent patient, but not without feelings 😂

A very important PSA before the week starts- 4 goats owned by a petting zoo in NC have tested positive for rabies. A lot of people get a little lax about keeping their horses, goats, and pigs up to date on rabies.... thinking exposure risk is low and it's not "required" according to the state. We recommend annual rabies vaccination for our patients- please get them up to date if they are not! Parents out there- ask for proof of rabies vaccination of all animals prior to booking a mobile petting zoo or a pony party.

Kali is on week 3 of 4 of her preceptorship, and she has developed so many skills already! She sutured up this face beautifully, but has also gotten proficient in equine exams, equine dentals, and podiatry radiographs. Go Kali! Large animal practice needs you! 🐴

Our students are crushing the week! Fabiola hails from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 and is doing her 4th and final year of vet school at NCSU. She plans to return home to PR to practice small animal medicine.
Anna is a 4th year at NCSU and plans to pursue a residency in lab animal medicine. She comes to us fresh off an externship at Stanford 👩‍🎓, but has jumped right in to mobile practice.
So far this week, they have helped with preventative exams, vaccines, dentals, lameness evaluations and injections, as well as chiropractic care and acupuncture.

Please say a big welcome to Kali when she comes to your barn! She is a 3rd year veterinary student who will be with us for 4 weeks. Every workplace needs a Kali- she is enthusiastic, polite, hard-working, and just a pleasure to have in the truck! She aims to open her own large animal practice in an underserved area of NC, and we could not love these goals more.

A new week means new students! We said bye to Gabby on Friday, who did a great job learning some equine and large animal skills while she was with us. Not pictured is her impressive goat tackle, showcased on her last day with us 😆🐐 We wish her all the best in her small animal emergency career!
