On the morning of January 27th, the doorbell rang. Where we lived, it never did.

Two officers. A few quiet questions. Then four words that altered my life on every dimension at once: he is deceased.

What happened next wasn’t grief. It was shock — the body’s own mercy, splintering me in a million directions before my mind could catch up.

I’ve been digging into the neuroscience of sudden loss lately — why the brain can’t comprehend what’s too sudden, why the body hits the ground before the mind understands why. It’s confirming, in research language, what I lived in my own.

It wasn’t until I befriended grief that I began to walk the pathway of transformation. Grief is not the enemy of healing — it is the doorway. When we stop running from the wound and turn to face it with reverence, the sacred work of becoming can finally begin.
