Fun Fact Friday: Dog spine facts
A dog’s spine consists of about 50 individual vertebrae divided into 5 distinct regions: 7 cervical (neck), 13 thoracic (mid-back/chest), 7 lumbar (lower back), 3 fused sacral, and a variable number of caudal (tail) vertebrae.
The spine acts as a bridge, transmitting the intense power generated by a dog's hind legs through the rest of the body for fast sprinting.
Caudal (Tail): Contains a variable number of vertebrae (usually between 6 and 23) depending on the breed and tail length.
