Dr. Schwallie is a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Optometry. He has been in private practice for approximately 25 years and has provided quality eyecare in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan since 1998. He is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Ohio Optometric Association. He is committed to continually learning new techniques and updating his skills in order to remain a leader in his field. He also enjoys volunteering and supporting various organizations including The Mildred Bayer Clinic for the Homeless, YES FM Christian Radio, The InfantSee Program, Focus on the Family, and several local schools and churches. Myopia is about more than needing stronger glasses. 👓👀

As nearsightedness progresses, the eye can grow longer from front to back. Higher levels of myopia are associated with an increased lifetime risk of certain eye conditions.

🔍 Retinal Health: Greater eye elongation can increase the risk of retinal problems later in life.

👁️ Glaucoma Risk: Higher myopia is also associated with an increased risk of glaucoma.

🛡️ Myopia Management: Certain contact lenses, overnight orthokeratology lenses, and low-dose atropine may be used to help slow myopia progression in children.

🩺 High Blood Pressure: Hypertension can cause changes in retinal blood vessels.

🩸 Diabetes: Changes in the retina can be associated with diabetic eye disease.
