Raise your voice gently without yelling, be patient, face him, enunciate & speak more slowly, rephrase instead of repeating, turn down TV/music to help him hear more easily. Support and encourage him to get help. Hearing loss doesn't have to separate us from loved ones.

🇺🇸 Today we pause to reflect and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. 🇺🇸 We have the privilege of working with many veterans living with tinnitus, hearing loss, and the lasting effects of military noise exposure. Their stories remind us that service does not always end when someone comes home. For many, the impact is carried in the ringing that never stops, in conversations that are harder to follow, and in the daily effort to stay connected to the people they love.

Kenny Jary, known to millions as “Patriotic Kenny” passed away last week. He was a Navy veteran who became beloved for his joyful patriotism, kindness, and his unmistakable red, white, and blue scooter. A gofundme helped him replace his mobility scooter when he couldn't afford to and raised far more than what he needed. Instead of keeping the funds, Kenny chose to pay that kindness forward. He created a foundation, that now provides mobility scooters to veterans.

Kenny’s story is especially meaningful to us because he also shared part of his own hearing loss journey, receiving hearing aids later in life. His openness helped normalize something many veterans experience but do not always talk about.

Memorial Day is not about sales or celebration. It is about remembrance, gratitude, and humility. To the families who carry the loss of a loved one who served: we honor you today.

Some days remind us exactly why we do what we do. Today, we had the sweetest little 6-year-old patient visiting from out of town who came in needing help with a broken pink and purple hearing aid. At the beginning of the visit she was super shy and tucked behind her mom, holding on to her tight and avoiding eye contact. But as the appointment went on, something changed. We laughed, talked about cats and hearing aids, connected, and by the time we said goodbye, we felt like best friends.

A few hours later, to my surprise, we received flowers from her!

It was such a simple, beautiful gesture, that touched my heart deeply.

Moments like this are why I love what I do. Yes, we help with tinnitus and communication, but the real privilege is caring for people. It is earning trust, sharing joy, and being invited into someone’s life in a meaningful way, even if only for a short time.

To this precious little girl and her family: Thank you for bringing so much joy to our day! 💜🌸
