Graves' Disease may have multiple manifestations, affecting various organs: the heart, skeletal muscle, bones, liver, eyes, skin.
Symptoms of Graves’ Disease
🔹 Weight loss: often occurring despite an increased appetite and normal or elevated food intake.
🔹 Cardiovascular: rapid or irregular heartbeat (palpitations) and high blood pressure.
🔹 Energy and mood: nervousness, anxiety, irritability, fatigue, and difficulty sleeping.
🔹 Physical: shaky hands (tremors), heat intolerance, excessive sweating, and muscle weakness (particularly in the upper arms and thighs).
🔹 Hair loss, fragile fingernails
🔹 Enlarged thyroid gland
🔹 Digestion: frequent bowel movements or diarrhea.
🔹 Changes in menstrual cycle: scant menstrual periods.
Some patients may also develop:
Thyroid Eye Disease: affects about a third of patients, causing bulging eyes, double vision, light sensitivity, and a gritty, irritated, or painful feeling in the eyes.
❗ This is a separate disease, requiring separate treatment.
❗ If eye-related symptoms occur, consulting an ophthalmologist as soon as possible is essential to prevent long-term complications.
Graves' Dermopathy: in rare cases, a lumpy, reddish, and thickened skin texture can develop, usually on the shins.
