As temperatures start to climb in our area we want to remind everyone about the dangers of leaving children in cars on a hot day.
A parked car can become deadly in minutes. At just 80°F outside, temperatures inside can soar to 123°F in under an hour. One small mistake can have life-threatening consequences.
Caregivers can help prevent this tragedy by:
👉 Never leaving a child alone in a vehicle “just a minute” is all it takes for temperatures to spike
👉 Check the back seat every time before locking and walking away, even if routines change
👉 Place a reminder item up front (phone, purse, work badge) so you must look in the back seat
👉 Keep car doors locked and keys out of reach to prevent children from climbing inside unattended
👉 Create a check in system with daycare or caregivers if a child doesn’t arrive as expected
👉 Act immediately if you see a child alone in a car call 911 right away
👉 Teach children vehicles are not play areas and to never enter one without an adult
A few simple steps could prevent an unthinkable tragedy.
