✨We are so proud of our newest LPN, Benita Padron!🩺 ❤️

We asked Benita what inspired her to pursue a career in nursing, and she shared a beautiful story of perseverance, family, and determination.

Being a nurse had always been her childhood dream, and throughout her journey, she helped care for family members who were terminally ill. Those experiences strengthened her desire to enter the medical field and give back to her family in a meaningful way. She wanted to prove to herself that “it’s never too late to change your life and accomplish your goals regardless of your past.”

Her family has been her biggest support system throughout her nursing journey. She shared that her husband always kept her focused on her goals and made sure she didn’t have to worry financially, while her daughter, Martina, helped make studying and school easier while also helping with her grandson. “I’m so grateful for them all,” she said.

Her advice to anyone considering nursing school is simple but powerful: “Don’t let your age, your past, or your circumstances convince you that you can’t do it.” She knows firsthand that nursing school is challenging, but believes that if you stay determined and keep going, you can accomplish more than you ever thought possible. “Believe in yourself and don’t be afraid to take that 1st step. Nursing is a very rewarding career!”

As she begins her nursing career, she is most excited to finally put everything she worked so hard to learn into practice. One of her biggest goals as a new nurse is to “never stop learning” and to become a knowledgeable and compassionate nurse that her patients and coworkers can trust.

Something people may be surprised to learn is that she went back to school later in life to accomplish her childhood dream. When she decided to pursue nursing, she didn’t have a high school diploma or GED. “I had to start from the bottom and work hard to be where I am at today.”

And when asked why she became a nurse, her answer beautifully summed up her entire journey:

“I became a nurse because I wanted to turn the challenges I’ve been through into something meaningful. I wanted to help people, give hope when someone is having a difficult day, and be the person who reminds them that they are not alone and be an inspiration they need. I wanted to make my family proud of me as well.”

❤️🩺 Congratulations on this incredible accomplishment!

Your journey is a beautiful reminder that it is never too late to chase a dream. We are so proud to welcome you to the nursing profession and can’t wait to see all the lives you touch along the way!

Harmon Memorial Hospital is PROUD to announce Phyllis Galvan as our new Director of Nursing!🏥

She says, “My healthcare career started out in 2015 as a CNA at Colonial Manor nursing home. I went onto do the LPN program at SWTC and received that license in 2018. I worked for JCMH OB/GYN for 5 years and then decided to pursue my RN, which I obtained from WOSC in 2023.”

Phyllis worked in Home Health until joining HMH in October, 2024. She also works with a VA HomeCare and makes visits to fully disabled veterans.

She is currently enrolled in the RN to BSN course at SWOSU and expected to graduate next year, and then plans to pursue an MSN.

“My long-term goal was always to end up in a management position. I have learned so much during my time here at HMH and with all the recent changes I feel that it will only get better. There is so much to learn from our new providers. I am excited to see what the future holds for the hospital, the staff and myself. I love working at HMH because the teamwork here is out of this world. No matter the day or the situation, the HMH team always pulls together to do what is safe for the patient. There is always a nurse here willing to show you the reigns, lend a helping hand or teach you something new.”

We’re EXCITED to have her in this new role and look forward to the impact that this will have here in our hospital. Help us congratulate her!👏🏼

🚨 Free Community Resources Available 🚨

At our hospital, we care about the safety and well-being of our community. Many may not know but we have a public access bin available with:

• FREE Narcan (naloxone)
• FREE fentanyl/drug testing strips

These resources are available to help prevent overdose deaths and promote harm reduction in our community. No questions asked.

💡 Fun Fact: Narcan (naloxone) can reverse an opioid overdose in just minutes and will not harm someone if opioids are not in their system. Carrying Narcan is just like carrying a fire extinguisher or first aid kit — you hope you never need it, but it could save a life. ❤️

📍 Located at: Front lobby of HMH to your left as soon as you walk in!

Please share this post to help spread awareness — you never know who may need it. A small resource can save a life. ❤️We have plenty!
