Nobody talks about how strange regulation can feel when survival stress has been your normal.
Because when your body has adapted to hypervigilance, busyness, tension, overthinking, control, or shutdown,
slowing down can initially feel unsafe.
Things that can happen when your system starts shifting into regulation:
* You suddenly feel more tired
* Everyday sounds, bright lights, or textures might feel overwhelming or sharper than you remember.
* You feel emotional “for no reason”
* Your body feels heavier or softer
* You feel joyful for no particular reason
* You may have stomach issues or changes in taste
* You want connection instead of isolation
* You have strange dreams
* You may actually feel MORE uncomfortable before you feel better.
So when these things happen, people often think something is wrong. 🙂↔️
But many times these are signs your system is finally coming out of protective mode long enough to restore.
Your body isn’t trying to betray you.
It’s trying to recover.
This is why nervous system work matters so much.
Because once you understand your physiology, you stop fearing every sensation and start understanding what your body is communicating. 🫶
Your symptoms start making sense.
And that changes everything.
If you’re tired of feeling stuck in survival mode and want to learn how to actually work with your nervous system instead of against it, this is the work I help people do every day. DM me “REGULATE.”
