You learned the breathing exercises.
The grounding.
The shaking.
The movement.
The tools to bring yourself back down.

And now the second you feel anxious, irritated, tense, overwhelmed or activated…

you think:

“I need to regulate.”

But here’s what can get missed:

If every uncomfortable sensation becomes something you need to get rid of, your nervous system never gets the opportunity to learn:

“Oh… I can actually handle this.”

And THIS is where capacity building comes in.

Capacity is how much stress, emotion, sensation and activation you can be with without becoming overwhelmed, shutting down or immediately needing to make it stop.

Think of activation like a wave.

The goal isn’t to stop the wave from coming.

And it isn’t to stay in the wave forever.

It’s learning how to ride it without getting stuck in it.

To feel the activation rise, stay with yourself as it moves through, and trust that your system can come back down again.

Sometimes you need a regulating resource.
Sometimes you need to discharge some of that activation.
And sometimes you need to simply experience:

“I can feel this and still be okay.”

Every time you do that within what your system can tolerate, you’re building capacity.

Your nervous system learns:

I don’t have to immediately escape this.
I don’t have to be afraid of what I’m feeling.
I know how to move through this.

And over time, you can ride bigger waves without being taken under by them.

This is a huge part of what I help you learn in my programs.

Yes, we build your toolbox and learn what helps your nervous system regulate.

But we also build your capacity to stay with yourself through the waves of real life, without getting stuck in them or constantly needing to get yourself back to calm.

Because the goal isn’t a life without activation.

It’s knowing you can ride the wave when it comes, and find your way back.

Have you ever noticed that when you start healing, you become hyper-focused on your triggers?

You avoid certain people.
Certain conversations.
Certain places.
Anything that sends your nervous system into protection.

And while reducing unnecessary stress can be supportive…

𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞.

It’s about intentionally adding more experiences of safety.

This is where 𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 come in.

A glimmer is a small moment (1-2 seconds) that your nervous system recognizes as goodness and presence.

It could be:
✨ The warmth of the sun on your skin.
✨ Your dog’s excitement when you walk through the door.
✨ Hearing someone laugh.
✨ Your favorite song coming on.
✨ The smell of fresh coffee.
✨ Looking up and noticing the trees moving in the wind.
✨ Someone making you feel truly seen.

These moments may seem insignificant.

But to your nervous system, they’re evidence.

Evidence that not everything is dangerous.
Evidence that your body can soften.
Evidence that there is safety here, too.

Because here’s what many people don’t realize:

Your nervous system isn’t only scanning for danger.

It’s also scanning for safety.

The more moments of safety you intentionally notice, the more you help reorient your nervous system toward the present instead of keeping it anchored in the past.

This doesn’t mean pretending everything is okay.

It means helping your body recognize that alongside the hard things, safe things exist too.

Healing isn’t just about having fewer triggers.

It’s about giving your nervous system enough repeated experiences of safety that it begins to expect them.

🌿 Today, instead of only asking yourself:

“What triggered me today?”

Try asking:

“What was one glimmer I experienced today?”

Because healing isn’t only built in the big breakthroughs.

It’s built in hundreds of tiny moments where your nervous system learns:

“I’m safe enough to stay here.”

What was one glimmer you noticed today? 💛

Have you ever been complimented for being…

“So independent.”

“You always have it together.”

“I wish I could be as productive as you.”

“You’re so easygoing.”

What if these aren’t just personality traits?

What if they’re protective strategies your nervous system developed because, at one point, they helped you feel safe?

Here are a few things people often compliment you on that can actually be survival responses (not always, but more often than you might think):

• Being the “strong one.”
You learned it wasn’t safe to need anyone.

• Hyper-independence.
Doing everything yourself feels safer than risking disappointment.

• Always staying busy.
Slowing down might bring up emotions your nervous system has learned to avoid.

• People pleasing.
Keeping others happy once helped you stay connected and avoid conflict.

• Overachieving.
Success became a way to earn love, approval, or a sense of safety.

• Constantly apologizing.
Your nervous system learned that taking the blame could reduce conflict or rejection.

• Never asking for help.
Receiving can feel more vulnerable than carrying it all yourself.

• Overthinking everything.
If you could predict every outcome, maybe you could stay safe.

• Being “low maintenance.”
Sometimes it’s not easygoing, it’s believing your needs are too much.

None of these mean something is wrong with you.

They were intelligent adaptations that helped you navigate experiences your nervous system didn’t have the capacity to process at the time.

Healing isn’t about getting rid of these parts of you.

It’s about building enough nervous system capacity that these behaviors become choices instead of automatic survival strategies.
