Nobody talks about how strange regulation can feel when survival stress has been your normal.

Because when your body has adapted to hypervigilance, busyness, tension, overthinking, control, or shutdown,
slowing down can initially feel unsafe.

Things that can happen when your system starts shifting into regulation:

* You suddenly feel more tired
* Everyday sounds, bright lights, or textures might feel overwhelming or sharper than you remember.
* You feel emotional “for no reason”
* Your body feels heavier or softer
* You feel joyful for no particular reason
* You may have stomach issues or changes in taste
* You want connection instead of isolation
* You have strange dreams
* You may actually feel MORE uncomfortable before you feel better.

So when these things happen, people often think something is wrong. 🙂‍↔️

But many times these are signs your system is finally coming out of protective mode long enough to restore.

Your body isn’t trying to betray you.

It’s trying to recover.

This is why nervous system work matters so much.

Because once you understand your physiology, you stop fearing every sensation and start understanding what your body is communicating. 🫶

Your symptoms start making sense.

And that changes everything.

If you’re tired of feeling stuck in survival mode and want to learn how to actually work with your nervous system instead of against it, this is the work I help people do every day. DM me “REGULATE.”

At Peak Performance, dry needling is one of the techniques used to help reduce muscle pain, tension, and movement restrictions so your body can function and heal more efficiently.

What is Dry Needling?
Dry needling is a treatment where a trained provider uses very thin needles to target tight muscles, trigger points, and areas of inflammation or dysfunction. The goal is to help release muscle tension, improve blood flow, decrease pain, and restore mobility. Unlike acupuncture, dry needling is based on muscular and neuromuscular function.
People often seek dry needling for:

Muscle tightness and spasms
Neck and back pain
Headaches and migraines
Shoulder, hip, or knee discomfort
Sciatica
Sports injuries
Chronic tension and overuse injuries
Limited mobility or stiffness
TMJ

Many patients notice:
Reduced pain and pressure
Improved range of motion
Faster recovery
Better muscle activation and function
Relief from chronic tightness that stretching alone does not resolve.

At Peak Performance, we will provide rehab exercises, stretching, and recovery therapies to help address the root cause of discomfort — not just temporarily mask symptoms.

Dr. Amanda is truly top notch. Her precision, knowledge, and ability to locate exactly where the body is holding tension is incredible. Patients often appreciate how thorough and intuitive her approach is, helping them feel more comfortable, mobile, and relieved after treatment.

POV: your nervous system doesn’t care that your bare feet touched grass for 30 seconds if your body stayed braced the entire time.

Grounding is not the ACTIVITY.

It’s the EXPERIENCE your nervous system receives.

Because you can:
walk outside
do breathwork
put your feet on the earth
take the bath
do the meditation…

…and still be internally scanning, rushing, disconnected, numbed out, or trying to “fix” yourself the whole time.

That’s not regulation.
That’s survival mode wearing a wellness outfit.

Grounding only becomes therapeutic when your nervous system actually experiences:

“Maybe I don’t have to brace right now.”

THAT is what translates.

Not the grass itself.
Not the tool itself.

The shift is in whether your body can RECEIVE the moment.

Can it feel:

* support
* slowness
* safety
* texture
* temperature
* connection
* presence
* orientating to right now

Because healing is not about performing regulating tools correctly.

It’s about helping your nervous system have new experiences that contradict the past and expanding your capacity.

That’s why one person can sit outside and deeply exhale into regulation…

…and another can do the exact same thing while staying completely activated.

Same tool.
Different nervous system experience.

This is also why “just meditate” or “just ground yourself” can feel so frustrating when your body doesn’t yet know how to RECEIVE safety.

Your nervous system doesn’t heal because you checked the box.

It heals through what your body actually experiences.

Your nervous system was never designed to hold survival stress forever.

It was designed to move through it.

A lot of what people call “random symptoms” are actually nervous system responses trying to complete unfinished survival energy.

Possible signs your body is releasing stored survival energy:

* Shaking or trembling
* Crying unexpectedly
* Sudden deep breaths or sighs
* Yawning over and over
* Heat waves or chills/coolness
* Tingling sensations
* Twitching muscles
* Needing to stretch
* Swallowing
* Burping or stomach noises
* Wanting to move, walk, or shake things out

Animals naturally discharge stress after threat by shaking, breathing, mobilizing, and completing the stress cycle.

Humans often interrupt this process.

We suppress.
Push through.
Stay busy.
Overthink.
Disconnect from the body.

And eventually that stress has nowhere to go.

So the body holds it.

This is why learning how to safely work with your nervous system can feel life changing.

Because your body doesn’t need more force.

It needs support, safety, and enough capacity to finally let go of what it’s been holding.

You were SO excited about it…

until it got closer.

Then suddenly:
• you started overthinking
• feeling anxious or overwhelmed
• convincing yourself not to do it
• focusing on everything that could go wrong
• or deciding “maybe this just isn’t for me”

That doesn’t automatically mean it’s the wrong decision.

A lot of times, it means your nervous system has realized:
“Oh wait… this is actually happening.”

And if this next step feels unfamiliar…
visible…
vulnerable…
or different than your normal—

your nervous system can interpret that as danger.

Not because the thing is bad.

But because it’s NEW.

Your nervous system is wired to prefer what’s familiar over what’s expansive.

Even if familiar is exhausting.

So right before the thing you deeply want…
your system may try to pull you back into:
busyness,
avoidance,
self doubt,
numbing,
procrastination,
or convincing yourself you don’t actually care.

This is why healing work isn’t just mindset work.

Because you can logically want something…
and still have a nervous system that’s terrified of it.

The goal isn’t to force yourself.

It’s to learn how to work WITH your nervous system so it can experience:
“I can do something new… and still be safe.”

That changes everything.
