You know when you decide to profile your business in a local magazine and they take some joke photos of you after the professional photo shoot... and it somehow makes it into the magazine, looking like a 1993 mall glamour shot? Soft lighting, awkward pose, and enough airbrushing to qualify for witness protection. Apparently, my business is now accepting appointments AND auditioning for a romance novel cover.

Luckily our treatment plans are much better than my modeling career! 🤣📷✨

In sports performance, waiting until pain appears is often waiting too long.

Proactive care focuses on identifying movement restrictions, muscle imbalances, and biomechanical inefficiencies before they develop into injuries. By addressing these issues early, athletes can optimize performance, improve recovery, maintain mobility, and reduce the risk of setbacks during training and competition.

Reactive care HAS ITS PLACE when injuries occur, but the most successful athletes understand that prevention is a critical part of performance. Regular assessments and targeted treatment help keep the body functioning at its highest level, allowing athletes to train consistently and compete with confidence.

The goal isn't just to get athletes out of pain—it's to help them stay healthy, resilient, and performing at their best year-round.

Can shockwave therapy help you get back to doing what you love?

A dedicated volleyball player came to us after undergoing reconstructive ankle surgery. She continued to experience pain, instability, and limitations that affected both her daily activities and her ability to return to the court.

After just three focused shockwave therapy treatments, she was able to walk a mile multiple times per week. By her sixth treatment, she had returned to strength training and was progressing toward getting back to the sport she loves.

Stories like hers are why we are passionate about offering focused shockwave therapy. We have seen many patients experience meaningful improvements in pain, mobility, and function, helping them return to the activities that matter most.

Focused shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment option for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions. Potential benefits include:

• Pain reduction
• Enhanced tissue healing and regeneration
• Improved circulation
• Accelerated recovery and rehabilitation

While results vary by individual and condition, shockwave therapy can be an effective alternative to more invasive interventions and may help reduce reliance on long-term medication for some patients.

If pain or injury is keeping you from living actively, focused shockwave therapy may be worth exploring.

Meet Dr. Evan Kahn — the original force behind North State Sport & Spine.

With over 15 years in practice, Evan has built a reputation as a trusted sports chiropractor dedicated to helping patients move, perform, and feel their best. His passion for high-quality, results-driven care continues to shape everything we do.

When he’s not in the clinic, you'll likely find him on the golf course or keeping up with his energetic preschooler alongside his wife.

We asked Evan a few questions:

What did you envision when you started your practice in Holly Springs?
“I wanted to create a practice that takes time with patients—really listening to their story and building a solution tailored specifically to them. By combining chiropractic care, rehab, soft tissue treatment, taping, and more, I felt we could offer something unique to this active community.”

How do you provide the best quality care?
“I choose treatment options like Dry Needling, Active Release Technique, or Shockwave therapy based on what will optimize each patient’s recovery. It’s rewarding to use experience and clinical reasoning to find what truly works.”

What do you see for the future of North State Sport & Spine?
“We’ll continue expanding our services here in Holly Springs while staying on the cutting edge of conservative care—and down the road, we're excited about opening additional locations across the region.”

We're proud to have his leadership, experience, and vision guiding our team.

Only the OGs will remember this look from 2017!

As we enter our 10th year as North State Sport & Spine, I’m humbled by our beginnings and really excited for our future. What started off as a dream, a wife who was patient and willing, a desk I bought from Office Max (on a nearly maxed out business credit card), a table from Amazon (bought using the same credit card), and a few patients who were willing to trust me with their care -

Has become an office I love to come to everyday, that offers state of the art services, and is filled with people that believe in the work we’re able to do for the many thousands of patients who have walked into our clinic.

I am so thankful for the people who have got us here; our amazing Drs LoPiccolo and Bessette, our incredible office manager Tania, our new and wonderful front desk assistant Mary, and our awesome billing specialist Tricia (who was my very first hire and helper).

And most importantly I cannot thank our patients enough. You trust us with your care. You trust us to get it right and lead you on your way to recovery. You trust us in telling you when we can help and when we need to go somewhere else. And I promise you that will never change.

Here’s to the next 10 years

- Evan

Next up in our reintroductions: Colby 👇

Hailing from Lexington, NC, Colby brings a powerful blend of clinical expertise and real-world performance experience.

With advanced training in techniques like Active Release Technique (ART), Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM), and cupping, he takes a personalized, hands-on approach to care—helping patients recover smarter, move better, and get back to doing what they love.

When he’s not in the clinic, you’ll likely find him in the gym, out on the golf course, or spending time with family.

We asked Colby a few questions to better understand what drives his work:

What inspired you to pursue chiropractic care?
“My interest in chiropractic started with personal experience. At 18, after my freshman year of college baseball, I suffered herniated discs that left me bedridden and forced me to leave school. Chiropractic care became the turning point in my recovery—it helped me regain mobility and get back to lifting. That experience stuck with me and ultimately led me to pursue this career.”

How do you empower patients in their rehab journey?
“I focus on building individualized corrective rehab plans because no two patients are the same. I also make sure patients understand exactly what they’re doing—walking them through exercises, coaching form, and giving feedback—so they feel confident and involved every step of the way.”

How do you work with coaches or athletic teams?
“Communication is key. I work closely with coaches and team staff to make sure we’re aligned on recovery goals. Whether that means adjusting practice or playing time, it’s all about helping the athlete recover efficiently and return at full strength.”
