Yoga therapy is more than movement. It’s very much a personalized, evidence-informed approach to healing that uses the tools of yoga to support physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. Yoga therapists view each individual from a whole person perspective with many moving pieces, rather than just through a one size fits all lens.
Yoga therapy sessions are tailored to your unique needs, goals, health conditions, and nervous system responses and some of the yoga practices used include movement, breathwork, mindfulness, meditation, mudras, yogic philosophy, and lifestyle management practices among others. This makes every session unique (and highly collaborative)!
One reason I truly love this work is that it’s more commonly being used alongside medical, mental health, educational, and recovery services as a complementary form of care. One fascinating point that stuck with me through grad school was the fact that many people come to yoga therapy as a last resort in their health journey. After experiencing its impact, so many said the same thing…“I wish I had known about this sooner.”
My hope is that through awareness and accessibility, yoga therapy becomes more widely understood and used as a preventative health practice that helps people build resilience before reaching a breaking point.
