Please join us in congratulating **Dr. Marija Lawless** as our June GOing the Extra Mile (GEM) Award recipient! đź‘Ź

On Easter morning, Dr. Lawless made her patient rounds with a special surprise—bringing bouquets of flowers to each patient spending the holiday in the hospital to help brighten their spirits during Easter weekend. But her kindness didn’t stop there. After returning home to spend time with her own family, another patient was admitted, and Dr. Lawless went back out to personally pick up an additional bouquet so that patient would feel included and cared for as well.

🌷 Her thoughtful actions beautifully reflect our **H.E.A.R.T. pledge**:

* **Hospitality** – Creating comfort and warmth for patients during a holiday away from home
* **Empathy** – Recognizing the emotional impact of spending Easter in the hospital

Recovery, wellness, and support are all part of whole-person health.

At Holton Community Hospital, Chelsea Shupe, LMSW, provides behavioral health support for patients participating in Medication-Assisted Treatment, often called MAT.

MAT is a treatment approach used in substance use disorder care that combines prescribed medication with counseling and behavioral health support. Chelsea works closely with medical providers, including Dr. Marija Lawless and Dr. LaDonna Schmidt, to support patients throughout the recovery process.

Chelsea’s counseling services may include:

• One-on-one therapy in a safe, supportive setting
• Support for substance use recovery
• Relapse prevention planning
• Coping skills for stress, anxiety, depression, and cravings
• Goal setting and accountability
• Coordination with your medical provider

Patients can expect respectful, nonjudgmental care focused on long-term wellness.

More Specialty Care, Closer to Home

Holton Community Hospital is pleased to welcome three new specialty providers now accepting patients through our Outpatient Specialty Clinic:

Dr. Patrice Michaletz-Onody, “Dr. MO” – Gastroenterology
Helping patients with digestive health concerns and gastrointestinal care.

Dr. Kevin Nasseri – Urology
Providing care for urologic conditions, including kidney stone concerns and other urinary health needs.

Dr. Chad Walker – Rheumatology Telehealth
Offering rheumatology care through convenient telehealth appointments for patients managing joint pain, autoimmune conditions, and related concerns.

These new providers help expand access to specialty care right here at Holton Community Hospital, reducing the need for patients to travel farther from home for appointments.

Walk With A Doc – June 16th with Dr. Lee Schnee

Join us on Tuesday, June 16th at 12 PM for our next Walk With A Doc at Country Side Park, 222 Parkview Ct, Holton, KS 66436. Meet at the shelter house on the east side of the park for a healthy walk and an important discussion on weight management and Medicare coverage options.

This month, Dr. Lee Schnee, M.D. from Holton Family Medicine will discuss new Medicare options for weight loss medications that may significantly reduce out-of-pocket expenses for qualifying patients.

Weight management is about more than appearance—it plays an important role in reducing the risk of heart disease, diabetes, stroke, joint pain, and many other chronic conditions. Dr. Schnee will help explain the latest options available and answer questions about how these medications may fit into an overall health plan.
