Is this data center boom just because of AI? Absolutely not.

Data centers are a critical part of our everyday lives. Watching a new show on Netflix? Thank a data center. Sending an email? Using online banking? Scheduling a doctor's appointment? Accessing medical records? Shopping online? All of these services rely on data centers operating behind the scenes every second of every day.

While AI is certainly driving additional demand, data centers have long been the backbone of the digital world. The need for secure, reliable data storage and computing isn't going away. It will only continue to grow as technology becomes an even bigger part of our daily lives.

We encourage everyone to stay informed, ask questions, and learn the facts as these projects are discussed in our communities. An informed community is a stronger community.

As discussion continues about the proposed ServiStar Data Center in Westfield, we wanted to share some information about one of the most common questions we've heard: water usage.

The project is planned to use a closed loop cooling system, which continuously recirculates cooling fluid rather than consuming large amounts of water for cooling. Once the system is initially filled, only minimal amounts of water are needed for occasional maintenance.

That means the facility's ongoing potable water use is expected to be primarily for restrooms, break areas, routine maintenance, and landscaping, not for cooling the data center itself.

As with any major development, it's important to review the facts and understand how the technology works. We encourage everyone to stay informed.
