This Memorial Day, we remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom—including Venerable Father Emil Kapaun.
Father Kapaun was a U.S. Army chaplain during World War II and the Korean War. On the battlefield, he was known for his fearless bravery, running through intense gunfire to rescue wounded soldiers, administer Last Rites, and offer comfort. Even in a POW camp, his unwavering faith, humor, and selflessness kept countless soldiers alive until he ultimately succumbed to illness in 1951.
He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, and his cause for sainthood continues today.
Today, we honor his legacy of courage, faith, and service. May we never forget the price of our freedom.
