Vulcan Speech Group Pediatric Speech-Language Pathology Services We are licensed speech-language pathologists working in a private practice in Birmingham, AL.

We evaluate and treat children (and some adults) who have difficulty communicating and/or eating. That means we can work with patients in a variety of areas including:

• Articulation-the way we use the sounds in words
• Phonology- patterns of speech-sound development
• Apraxia- motor planning difficulties when producing speech
• Fluency- stuttering
• Voice- hoarseness, breathiness, nasality issues, etc.
• Receptive language- what people understand of the language they hear
• Expressive language- using language to communicate effectively
• Pragmatic language- social communication
• Oral-motor- muscle coordination of the facial muscles required for speech
• Swallowing/feeding disorders- trouble with the muscle strength/coordination to chew and swallow or sensory aversions to foods/diet progression

Children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, and a variety of other diagnoses have a higher risk of having delays in many of these areas. I completed my Clinical Fellowship in rural East Tennessee, where Dolly’s generosity was woven into the fabric of the community. You could see the impact of what she had given back everywhere, but what struck me most was her commitment to children and literacy.

As an SLP, that part of her legacy means even more to me. We know how powerful books are for building language, vocabulary, imagination, connection, and a foundation for lifelong learning. We use them every day in our office and in our homes with our own children. Dolly has made sure that millions of children have had access to that opportunity.

So today, on Dolly Parton Day, we’d love to honor her legacy in the simplest way we know how:

🌟 Coming Soon: Social Skills Groups at Vulcan Speech Group! 🌟

Friendships, conversations, problem-solving, and flexible thinking don't always come naturally—but they can be taught and practiced in a supportive environment.

We're excited to launch Social Skills Groups at Vulcan Speech Group! These small-group sessions will be led by our experienced pediatric speech-language pathologists and will focus on:

✅ Social communication skills
✅ Making and maintaining friendships
✅ Conversation skills
✅ Perspective-taking and inferencing
✅ Problem-solving and conflict resolution
✅ Executive functioning skills such as organization, planning, self-monitoring, and flexible thinking

Our small group format allows children to learn, practice, and receive individualized support while interacting with peers in a fun and engaging setting.

📍 Groups will be matched by age and skill level.
👥 Small group sizes for meaningful participation.

Mrs. Lane and Mrs. Allyson LOVED spending the week at The Red Barn for our Social Skills Camp!! It is always our favorite week of the year and we are so thankful for our partnership with The Red Barn! At Social Skills Camp we learn to find commonalities with new friends, learn about nonverbal communication, practice making inferences, work on executive functioning skills, and so much more.
