The Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary celebrated its more than 150 volunteers and installed a new leadership team during its annual dinner on Monday, June 8th at Lukan’s Farm Resort in Hawley. New Auxiliary President Janice Pettinato, BSN, RN is joined by President-elect Julie Pacheco, Vice President Michelle Corrigan, RN, Treasurer Diane Fox, Assistant Treasurer Tami Baker, and Secretary Diane Warden.

Outgoing president, Karen Hermey expressed her appreciation to everyone, “It’s been an honor.” She recapped progress over the past few years including the introduction of PayPal, Eventbrite, and credit cards for accepting payments; utilizing Facebook for sharing and connecting and the launch of the organization’s independent website www.wmhauxiliary.org. Hermey even joked “The saying ‘old dogs can’t learn new tricks’ isn’t really true.”

Just within the past two months WMH Auxiliary members hosted fundraisers including a Studio 54 themed Spring Gala; a Beatles tribute concert, a uniform sale and a designer purse and gift sale. The three retail operations; The Gift Box in the hospital lobby along with thrift stores The Other Shop One and Two in Honesdale and Hawley continue to be well run and profitable. All proceeds from the Auxiliary go to enhancing healthcare in the Wayne Memorial Health System’s service area. A check for $175,000, designated for Wayne Woodland Manor, the system’s skilled nursing facility in Waymart, was presented at Monday evening’s dinner.

For information on becoming a member contact Kathie Carlson at 570-226-8115 or email [email protected]. Annual dues are only $5!

Please consider donating blood this Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital 11am-4pm!

Appointments are lower than usual, and The Red Cross is facing an urgent need for blood donors nationwide. Summer can be a difficult time to keep the blood supply strong, but patients in our local hospitals and across the country continue to rely on lifesaving blood every day. If you are healthy and eligible, your donation can make an immediate impact. Please schedule your appointment, keep your commitment if you are already signed up, and encourage a friend, family member, or coworker to donate with you. Every donor truly makes a difference.

The need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in our community. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds and most of us will need blood in our lifetime.

Thank you for supporting the American Red Cross blood program!

Download the Red Cross Blood Donor App on the App Store, Google Play or text BLOODAPP to 90999. Schedule appointments, view your blood type and results of your mini-physical, and track your donations.
