🎓 Congratulations to the seven students who completed the Kaiser Permanente Health Care Summer Experience Program on Maui!

Last night, we celebrated their achievements alongside family members, Kaiser Permanente staff, and our partners at University of Hawai'i Maui College. Over eight weeks, these high school and college students gained hands-on experience in our Wailuku and Maui Lani Medical Offices while exploring careers in health care through classroom learning and real-world exposure.

We are proud of all they have accomplished and look forward to seeing the impact they will make in the future. Mahalo to everyone who helped make this meaningful program a success!

👟 Mahalo to everyone who supported this year’s Big Island Relay For Life. Our Kaiser Permanente Hawaii team was proud to raise $2,272, share health resources with the community, and staff the event’s first aid tent throughout the night.

A special shoutout to our physicians, nurses, staff, and family members who helped make the event a success and supported the fight against cancer in our community.

🌱💚 Kaiser Permanente Hawaiʻi is proud to be a sponsor of this year's Native Hawaiian Convention's ʻAha ʻŌpio (youth) Track, engaging more than 300 Hawaiʻi high school students in hands-on experiences focused on health care, culture, leadership, and advocacy.

We started the week at Kākoʻo ʻŌiwi, where students explored how mālama ʻāina and community well-being are deeply connected, learning how caring for the land helps build healthier people and communities.

It takes a village and we want to mahalo Kamehameha Schools, Liliʻuokalani Trust, Ke Kula 'o Samuel M. Kamakau, and Nā Pua Noʻeau for your support of ʻAha ʻŌpio. We also want to thank the Hawaiian Council, Office of Hawaiian Affairs, John A. Burns School of Medicine's Native Hawaiian Center of Excellence, Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, Kākoʻo ʻŌiwi, and the many other helping hands and hearts for making this meaningful experience possible for our next generation of leaders. 🌺

🌊 Kaiser Permanente Hawaii is cheering on Shae Foudy as she takes on the Pailolo and Kaiwi Channels this weekend, two of the most demanding endurance races in the world. Shae is a clinical dietitian at Moanalua Medical Center, where she helps patients build healthy, confident relationships with food. Outside of work, she's a former professional stand-up paddleboarder and world champion who has traded competitive SUPing for stand-up paddle foiling.

Today, she'll compete in the M2Molokai Challenge, followed by the roughly 40-mile Molokai2Oahu Paddleboard World Championship Foil Edition on Monday, where she'll rely on the same nutrition expertise she brings to her patients every day to fuel and hydrate herself along the way. Good luck, Shae! We're proud to have you on our team, and love the way you are living our Kaiser Permanente’s mission in all you do!

Jeremy Masiclat is a hospital aide in Telemetry at Moanalua Medical Center and has been with Kaiser for two years:

“I put myself in my patients’ position. How would I want to be treated? Or if that patient was my son, how would I treat them? I put myself into their position first and then I just do what I got to do to help them out. Sometimes they’re alone. I work night shift. Sometimes they come from different islands and so they’re by themselves. So I feel what they’re feeling. If I’m here and all my relatives are out there, I don’t want to be neglected — especially if I don’t feel good.

For me, every time I go home, I want to feel accomplished. I don’t want to go home knowing that there’s somebody that I didn’t take care of or I left someone out.

One thing I learned working at the hospital is that I learned to appreciate life more. I learn to say ‘I love you’ to the people I love everyday. I call my mom, my sister, and my grandma. Because you’re not sure what will happen. You only live once and you just got to do it day by day. I’m just glad that for the people who feel alone at night … I’m just glad that I’m able to hold their hand and help them out a little bit. And when they remember me and say my name, it feels good. I feel accomplished.”
