Every overdose death is a drug policy failure.

On International Overdose Awareness Day, we’re coming together to remember the lives lost, stand with people impacted by overdose, and call attention to a crisis that demands action.

Join H3RC for a community gathering and sign waving at the Hawaiʻi State Capitol.

Monday, August 31
3:30–5:00 PM
Hawaiʻi State Capitol

Overdose deaths are preventable. We need policies rooted in compassion, harm reduction, treatment, and the dignity of people who use drugs.

Bring a sign. Bring your voice. Stand with us.

Please note that all H3RC offices will be closed on Friday, July 31, in observance of Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea (Sovereignty Restoration Day).

Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea commemorates the restoration of the Hawaiian Kingdom’s sovereignty to King Kamehameha III on July 31, 1843, following the Paulet Affair. The day is recognized in Hawaiʻi as Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea, or Sovereignty Restoration Day.

Our offices will resume normal business hours on Monday, August3.

Help Shape the Future of Care on Kauaʻi.

H3RC Kauaʻi, together with community partners, invites you to join us for two days focused on strengthening our system of care and connecting people with the services they need.

📅 Thursday, August 13
Sequential Intercept Mapping (SIM)
Service providers are invited to participate in a collaborative planning session to identify gaps in services, strengthen partnerships, and help shape the future of care on Kauaʻi. Your experience and perspective can help build a stronger, more connected system of care for our island.

📅 Friday, August 14
Community Resource Fair (Open to the Public)
We're looking for organizations to host a resource table and connect community members with the programs and services they offer. This free event is open to the public and is an opportunity to help people discover the resources available across Kauaʻi.

Whether you're helping improve the system through the SIM or connecting directly with the community at the Resource Fair, your participation can make a lasting impact.

Registration links for both days are in our bio.

Tomorrow is Christmas in July. ❤️🎄

For more than 40 years, the Imperial Sovereign Court of Hawaiʻi has brought our community together to support people living with HIV.

Christmas in July began during the height of the HIV epidemic, when many people didn’t know if they would live to see the holidays. The Imperial Sovereign Court of Hawaiʻi created this event to bring a little Christmas cheer in the middle of the year and remind people they weren’t alone.

Today, that tradition continues.

Join us tomorrow to celebrate, support a great cause, and help continue a legacy of compassion that has been uplifting our community for decades.

We hope to see you there.

Yesterday, we celebrated a truly special milestone: the retirement of Joe Thompson, the first H3RC team member to retire.

For more than 30 years, Joe has served the people of Maui with compassion, dignity, and unwavering commitment. Beginning with The CHOW Project in the 1990s, he helped build harm reduction services on Maui, providing syringe exchange, safer-use supplies, education, and hope to countless individuals.

For three decades, Joe showed up for his community, building trust and reminding people that everyone deserves care and respect.

Hōʻomaikaʻi, Joe, on your well-earned retirement. Mahalo for your extraordinary service, your kindness, and the lasting impact you’ve made on Maui and on H3RC. We wish you nothing but happiness in this next chapter.

Last night, Team H3RC had the privilege of celebrating one of our own.

Congratulations to Kunane Dreier on receiving the Hoʻowaiwai Award from ʻEkolu Mea Nui in recognition of a lifetime of service to our community.

For decades, Kunane has shown what it means to lead with compassion, resilience, and aloha. He has mentored countless people, advocated for those whose voices too often go unheard, and helped build a stronger, more inclusive Hawaiʻi. His impact can be seen in the lives he's touched and the communities he's helped shape.

Mahalo to Mayor Derek Kawakami for presenting this special recognition, and to ʻEkolu Mea Nui for honoring Kunane and celebrating the legacy he continues to build.

We're incredibly proud to call you a colleague, mentor, and friend. Congratulations, Kunane. This honor is so well deserved.
