A Summer Reflection
This season, consider asking yourself:

What brings me genuine joy?
What am I ready to fully receive?
What can I lovingly let go of?

Just as the Small Intestine separates what nourishes from what does not, we too can choose what we carry forward. When we cultivate joy with discernment, the Heart becomes peaceful, the spirit shines brightly, and we move through summer with greater ease and vitality.

I look forward to supporting your health throughout the season.

How Acupuncture Can Help
Acupuncture works with your body’s natural rhythms to support seasonal balance. During the summer months, treatments may help:

Calm stress and anxiety
Improve sleep quality
Support healthy digestion
Enhance emotional well-being
Promote mental clarity and focus
Restore balance to the Heart and Small Intestine meridians
By aligning with the season, we create the conditions for greater vitality throughout the year.

Supporting Your Heart & Small Intestine This Summer
Eat with the season
Choose fresh, colorful foods such as berries, watermelon, cucumbers, leafy greens, tomatoes, basil, and lightly cooked vegetables. Staying hydrated helps support the body’s cooling mechanisms during the warmer months.

Practice mindful joy
Spend time laughing with loved ones, enjoying nature, listening to music, or engaging in creative activities that genuinely uplift your spirit.

Protect your energy
Balance activity with moments of rest. Summer’s abundant energy can easily lead to overextension if we don’t allow time to recharge.

Slow down at mealtimes
Eating mindfully improves digestion and encourages both physical and emotional assimilation.

Calm the mind
Even a few minutes of meditation, gentle breathing, journaling, or quiet reflection each day can help settle the Heart and strengthen the Shen.

The Small Intestine: The Art of Assimilation
The Small Intestine does far more than digest food. Energetically, it is responsible for sorting the pure from the impure—not only in what we eat, but also in our thoughts, emotions, and daily experiences, thus creating biochemistry.

Ask yourself:

What experiences truly nourish me?
What habits no longer serve my well-being?
What wisdom can I carry forward, and what can I release?
Assimilation is about taking in what supports growth while letting go of what creates unnecessary burden. This process allows us to move through life with greater clarity and purpose.

In TCM, the Heart is much more than a physical organ—it is considered the home of the Shen, our spirit, or  our authentic self. A balanced Heart allows us to experience:
• Genuine joy and enthusiasm
• Emotional resilience
• Mental clarity
• Peaceful sleep
• Meaningful relationships
When Heart energy is abundant and balanced, we feel open, connected, and present. When it becomes depleted or overstimulated, we may experience anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, irritability, scattered thoughts, or difficulty finding balance.
Summer invites us to embrace joy, but TCM teaches that true joy comes from living in harmony with ourselves rather than constant stimulation. This is Heart/Shen coherence.
