Another great reminder of why seeing an orthodontist at age 7 is important to the future health of your child's teeth as well as growth and development of the upper and lower jaws. A class III bite (underbite) left untreated can lead to long treatment times as a teen or jaw surgery as an adult. Consultations are always complementary and you do not need a referral from your dentist to schedule an appointment.

It’s a question we hear all the time: “Do they really need to come in at age 7?”

The answer is often yes and this is a great example of why. In the “before” photo, you’ll notice something called a crossbite. This happens when the upper palate is too narrow, causing the top teeth to sit inside the lower teeth instead of outside where they should be.

Catching and correcting a crossbite early can support healthy jaw growth, help permanent teeth come in properly, prevent uneven wear, and reduce the risk of bigger orthodontic issues down the road. Early treatment can make a big difference and it’s often simpler than parents expect.
