Flow Hood River: Yoga Move Connect

Flow Hood River: Yoga Move Connect A sacred welcoming studio located in Hood River and offering livestream classes to friends near and far. Yoga is not really about the poses at all.

FLOW shares an inspiring, safe, & empowering approach to yoga & fitness. Flow is a community co-created to support each other’s unfolding in each moment to our true nature. Stephanie often says, “The teacher and the taught together create the teaching.” Yoga teaches us that we do not come together merely to heal the body or to watch each other do fancy poses. Your entire being and the energy we s

hare together creates the yogic experience. Our classes are not about how many cool poses an instructor can do…they are about the connection to something more than that…to seeing and experiencing reality as it is. Once we all “get” that in our entire being, the poses just flow inspired from our bodies, breath, minds and hearts exactly as they are meant to in that moment. When we experience true Yoga it can be amazingly pure, deep, joyful and sometimes even exquisitely heart breaking.

Gorge Friends,
Our hearts are with everyone affected by the wildfires and smoke. To help maintain excellent indoor air quality at Flow Studio, we run our medical-grade Medify MA-25 HEPA H13 Air Purifier, which is independently tested to capture 99.97% of airborne particles as small as 0.1–0.3 microns, including many particles associated with smoke, pollen, dust, and other airborne allergens.

If you've been avoiding outdoor exercise because of the smoke, this is one of those times when an indoor practice or workout can be especially supportive for both your body and your lungs.

If you prefer to stay home, remember that many of our classes are also available via livestream or recording. If the air quality in your home is good, practicing online is another great way to stay consistent with your movement and self-care until conditions improve.

💦PSA from Flow Studio: hydration is not just about drinking more water. It is about balance.

💧 When we sweat heavily, work out in heat, drink alcohol, start the day with coffee before water, or breathe through the mouth, we can become depleted more quickly than we realize.

💦But one of the biggest mistakes is trying to “catch up” too aggressively with large amounts of water, electrolytes, salty drinks, or IV fluids.

🩵Dehydration is a balance problem — and overcorrecting can become a balance problem too. Too much water can dilute electrolytes. Too much sodium/electrolyte replacement can contribute to puffiness, fluid retention, higher blood pressure, and extra work for the kidneys.

The goal is steady support:
💦drink water before (and between!) coffee or alcoholic beverages
💧replace electrolytes when you actually sweat heavily
💦avoid “sweating it out” when you already feel depleted
💧return to exercise gradually after illness, dehydration, or unusual fatigue
💦pay attention to urine, swelling, energy, blood pressure, and recovery

🩵Hydration is a daily rhythm of listening, replenishing, and respecting the body’s signals.

🤍This is not medical advice and should not replace guidance from your healthcare provider. If you experience severe weakness, confusion, chest pain, shortness of breath, dark urine, very little urination, significant swelling, or symptoms that feel concerning, please seek medical care.

What does it really mean to “release” your hamstrings?

“Hamstring release” usually means the backs of the thighs feel less tense, restricted, tender, or guarded after stretching, rolling, massage, movement, or nervous-system regulation. The muscles are not literally being released from anything.

A meaningful release may be less about eliminating tension and more about giving the body a better reason not to create so much of it.

Several changes may contribute:
• Reduced protective muscle tension
• Greater tolerance for the sensation of stretching
• Temporary changes in tissue sensation and stiffness
• Improved strength and coordination
• Changes in pelvic position, hip mobility, or spinal mechanics

It is also helpful to remember that pulling behind the thigh is not always muscular. Burning, tingling, electrical sensations, or pulling that changes when the ankle or spine moves may involve neural sensitivity rather than a hamstring that simply needs more stretching.

A more accurate description of hamstring release might be:
Reducing tension and sensitivity while improving comfortable, supported hip mobility.

Our newest science-informed blog explores what tight hamstrings may actually need—and includes a helpful 4-minute practice video. Learn how Roll & Recovery Flow, Flow Yoga, and Strength45 work together to help your body feel more available, supported, and strong—not simply more flexible.
