This Weeks "On The Bench" This week I will address the Bigsby Vibrato. Yes; vibrato, not tremolo. The vibrato bar was designed for very subtle vibrato use, not dive bombing like a tremolo is used for. If you go out of tune with a Bigsby vibrato, you are pressing too hard. These were used by many famous musicians like Tom Petty, George Harrison, Chet Atkins, Danny Gatton and many more. I will comment on the photos as usual. Thank You for reading. This Week's "On The Bench" This late 60's Hofner Beatle Bass (part of the Kalifornia Karl collection) came in with some intonation issues. Here's a fact you all should keep in mind; As your strings age, your guitar or bass goes further and further out of intonation. Don't move the bridge or saddles, just put a new set of strings on and your instrument should play in tune again. In fact, the bridge saddles hardly ever require movement; usually, only if you change string gauge or tuning. I will comment on the photos as usual. Thank you for reading. This Week's "On The Bench" How much relicing do you like your guitar to have? I show three levels of relicing in this post. The fourth level is brand new and shiny without any relicing at all. My question is: Do you like relic and dirty? Relic with wear marks and no dirt? Slight relic with oxidation and no scratches at all? Or brand new and shiny? So please feel free to comment and share your thoughts. Thank you for reading. Dave Ross "The Guitar Doctor"

This Week's "On The Bench" I've seen a lot of old Gibson guitars from the '50s era over the last month or two. This old late '50s Gibson Les Paul Professional was presented to me as a pile of parts in a body bag. Actually, it's in a Moden case that was made by the Moden case company owned and operated by Bob Moden in Warren, RI back in the early '80s. I will comment on the photos as usual.
