Dear RI Homebirth and Hope Family Health Community,

As I move towards retirement from midwifery, I am moving to close the RI Homebirth and Hope Family Health practices.

We will continue care for all current home birth clients.

We will remain open through the end of June and offer some extra hours to take care of school physicals, and ongoing infant and family care. We will also provide record transfers on a weekly basis. Please see our website for information regarding records acquisition and appointments: www.rihomebirth.com

I want to send extra gratitude to my current partners: Michelle, Haley, Lisa and Katherine as well as our past partners Willa, Kristina, Meghan, Courtney, and Andrea.

Michelle, thank you for initiating this journey. It’s been the honor of my career to work with you.

It’s been an honor to serve this community for more than 20 years.

With love,
Mary

welcome

A Letter To Our Community,
With the public murders of Black Americans, our practice seeks to meet this moment and address systemic racism. As providers, we have always sought to recognize and honor the individual humanity of our patients. We recognize that this quiet, personal work is insufficient.

Our practice is currently led by a group of white women who are humbly entering into the work of anti-racism. We are honored to care for each individual and family who has entrusted us with their health. We have also striven to provide personalized and culturally sensitive care. Especially in pregnancy care, we recognize the value of being cared for by an individual and practice of one's choosing and having the choice to be cared for by someone who looks like you or shares your ethnic background.

We hope to address some disparities by precepting student healthcare providers of color who seek to provide well-person and pregnancy care in a community setting. We are connecting with healthcare providers of color in our community to grow their own practices or join our practice, if desired. Additionally, we continue to explore how to make out-of-hospital care financially accessible to individuals who desire it.

We know that our work as providers cannot address all the issues before our community and our world's racist history. We as individuals are finding other ways to advocate for change and engage in anti-racism. We welcome your questions, comments, and -hopefully- partnership.

Humbly,

Mary, Michelle, Willa, and Haley

There are many pregnant people asking us how they can protect their health and the health of their baby... social distancing is one way we can all help each other stay healthy right now, and Dr. Aviva Romm has some other great ideas about ways to support our bodies for a strong immune system. She also dispels some potentially dangerous myths about COVID-19. You can see her post here: https://avivaromm.com/category/covid-19/

I've created this resource page for you based on what is known about at this time about COVID-19, and based on best resources and research evidence.

Dear friends and community members. We recognize the anxiety and vulnerability of pregnant, birthing and new families at this moment. We are aware of the heavy responsibility that community midwives have today and in the coming weeks, to care for families with the utmost care and caution. Please know that we are working diligently with our midwifery community and public health officials to maintain safety and we are here to support you as we all find our way in these challenging times. More soon. 💗
