I did this the other day and I could BREATHE better and expand my rib cage for more complete breaths!
Nothing I love more than improving rib cage mobility and training ALL the muscles of respiration!
Breathing and respiratory mechanics are more than just the Diaphragm, and more than just simply “Belly Breathing” !
Getting each rib to expand like little “bucket handles lifting, a 360 approach into the rib cage, with a diaphragm that can go thru its range of motion of ascending and descending!
1. Rolling lateral-side rib cage targeting muscles of the serratus, intercostals, Lats with myofascial balls or a larger coregeous ball You would be surprised how stuck people are in these ribs!
2. Rolling and releasing the Pecs…especially Pec minor. Tension here can roll the shoulder forward, limit expansion and anterior-posterior movement in the upper rib cage. Proceed with caution ⚠️ as this area can compress a region of neuro-vascular structures creating numbness and tingling!
3. Load the Breathing muscles with a straw and eventually a resistance trainer! Adding load can build strength to to e deep system muscles! The ultimate challenge is the “VACUUM” technique in which we create and apnea, rib cage opening to mobile the diaphragm up, eccentrically strengthening and using it like a 🪠!
Are you doing a breathwork practice? Do you need more guidance on how these prep exercises or learning the vacuum-HYPOPRESSIVES technique can help with your core coordination and pelvic health?
