John Morgan Harris, III (LTC Retired), 86, of Simpsonville, SC, passed away at NHC Mauldin, SC on August 17, 2026.

John was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky to the late Vernon C. and Mary V. Harris (nee McShane). He married Martha Boyd Davis on November 22, 1956. She passed away on September 17, 2021. He married Margaret Guillard on December 20, 2021, and she survives.

In addition to his wife Margaret Guillard, survivors are his three children, Ann Harris (Greg) of Simpsonville, SC, Kathryn Novak (Phil) of Grasonville, MD, and John M. Harris, IV (Mim) of Peach Tree Corners, GA; ten grandchildren, Ian (Colleen), Michael (Corinne), Brittany, Morgan(Ceci), Sarah, Elizabeth, Maggie, Max, Molly, and Miles; eight great-grandchildren, Blair, Idris, Addie, Izabella, Owen, Zayne, Zoey, and Maren; two sisters, Ronnie Bubb (Ernie) and Cathy Perrizo; as well as four nephews and a niece, Jim (Kristi), Ryan (Claire), Michael (Julie), Mac (Laura), and Laura.

In addition to his parents and Martha, John was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan.

John grew up in Hopkinsville, KY and attended Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School and graduated from Hopkinsville High School in 1957. He graduated with a bachelor's from Troy State University and a Master’s in Education from the University of Virginia.

Upon graduation from high school, John worked for the Kentucky New Era and Metropolitan Life before his National Guard unit was called to active duty in 1961. After a distinguished career in the U.S. Army, he retired with Martha and family in Charlottesville, and owned and operated a local printing business, Priority Press. John was an active member of the Church of the Incarnation in Charlottesville. John was active in Kiwanis and the Salvation Army. He moved to Simpsonville in 2013 and became an active member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church where John served as a greeter and participated in Alpha.

The Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. followed by a time of visitation until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast location in Simpsonville, SC. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 21st at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. John will be laid to rest in the Kentucky Veteran's Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, KY.

Graveside Services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Kentucky Veteran’s Cemetery West with Father Emmanuel Udoh officiating with burial following with Military Honors. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle all local arrangements.

At 27 days old, Tatum Zachary Dean Evans, of Hopkinsville, passed away last Thursday at home in his mother’s arms of natural causes. Celebration of Life Services will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home. Visitation will be that day from 1:30 PM until the service hour at 2:00 PM. Tate was born in Hopkinsville, KY, on July 17, 2026, the son of Zachary Dean Evans and Nicole Kaylee Cuellar, both of Hopkinsville.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brothers, Michael Patrick Craig (5) and Axel Isaiah Cuellar (3); his maternal grandparents, Joshua Cuellar and Christina Peterson both of Hopkinsville; his paternal grandparents, Kenneth Evans of Cadiz and Helen Denise Johnson of Hopkinsville; his paternal great grandmother, Claudia Bala of Hopkinsville; and his maternal great grandparents, Sal and Rhonda Cuellar of Hopkinsville, Michael and Teri Peterson of Michigan, and Sheila Peterson and Michael Edgar of Hopkinsville.

Rev. James Henry Jones Jr., age 92, of Hopkinsville formerly of Nashville, TN, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Christian Health Center of natural causes. The family has chosen cremation with a Celebration of Life Service to be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday September 6, 2026, at Trenton United Methodist Church in Trenton, KY. Burial of his cremains will take place at a later date in Edgewood Cemetery in Trenton. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.

Rev. Jones was born in Bowling Green, KY, on June 4, 1934, the son of the late James H. Jones, Sr. and Elizabeth Anne Farris Jones. After graduating from Trenton High School in 1952, he attended Kentucky Wesleyan College, graduating in 1956. He went on to graduate from Southern Methodist University Perkins School of Theology in 1963 with a Bachelor of Divinity. He was ordained as an Elder in the United Methodist Church in May 1963, at the Louisville Annual Conference held at Hopkinsville First United Methodist Church. He served as a missionary through the United Methodist Church Board of Global Ministries in Bolivia, South America, for 10 years. First as a layman, he taught English for 3 years, then following his ordination he served as the Minister for several local churches and also taught Pastoral Education for seminarians. Following his time with the Board of Global Ministries, he served as appointed Minister to various local congregations within the Southwest Texas Conference from 1976 until his retirement in1996. He lived in Nashville, TN for the past 30 years and he was active in the Blakemore United Methodist Church serving as a choir member and Sunday School leader. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Marvin L. Jones and his sister, Anne Jones Sullivan.

Survivors include his daughters, Sarah Jones of Temple, TX and Elizabeth Trosper of Sunland, CA; his three grandchildren, Paul Trosper, Joshua Trosper, Jessie Andrew Avendano; and his three great grandchildren, Alyssa Biehle, Kai Avendano, and Kaleb Biehle.

Bobby Joe Ethridge, age 83, of Hopkinsville, KY, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Jennie Stuart Health of natural causes. Mr. Ethridge was born in Onapa, OK, on May 11, 1943, the son of the late Floyd Edward and Opal Louis Mangrum Ethridge. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Evansville, IN. He was a proud veteran serving in the United States Army. Bobby worked in the printing industry for Creative Press in Evansville, IN before medically retiring. He was a former member of the VFW, the American Legion, and the Military Order of Purple Heart. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Floyd Melvin Ethridge; his sister, Pearl Mae Bollinger; and his two grandchildren, Skyler Joel Ethridge and Eliza Jane Harris.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 ½ years, Charlene Ethridge of Hopkinsville; his son, Robert Shane (Ana Maria) Ethridge of Cadiz, KY; his daughter, Buffy Dawn (John) Harris of Booneville, IN; his brother, Edward Lee (Kathleen) Ethridge of Hopkinsville; his seven grandchildren, Kasie Dawn Conner, Andrew Joseph Conner, James Albert Harris, Shyana Dawn (Zack) Ethridge Lile, Shane Austin Ethridge, Joseph Alexander Ethridge, and Samuel Jude Ethridge; and his four great grandchildren, Emmalee Schoenbaechler, Larzen Ellington, Ella Lile, and Harper Lile.

Roger E. Watson, age 82, of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Jennie Stuart Health after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home, with Rev. Becky Durham officiating. Burial will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West with Military Honors. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 13, from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour at the funeral home. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family with the arrangements.

Roger was born January 5, 1944, in Goldsboro, North Carolina, to the late Robert E. and Maggie Pearl McCabe Watson. He graduated from Goldsboro High School with the Class of 1964 and went on to attend NC State University on a baseball scholarship, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He also played baseball for an American Legion team. Roger proudly served his country in the United States Army for 8 years, 9 months, and 21 days, finishing his career as a Captain. He was a Green Beret with the 5th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and served three consecutive tours during the Vietnam War. Among the many honors he received for his military service were two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star with V device, a Silver Star, and the Distinguished Service Cross, the highest military decoration he received. Following his military service, Roger began his civilian career at Planters Bank on Main Street, where he started as a teller and worked his way into the Loan Department, eventually processing loans. He later joined the Kentucky Department of Human Resources, where he worked in Hopkinsville before transferring to the Fort Campbell Post. Roger was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hopkinsville. He was also a former member of the Hopkinsville Rotary Club and the Elks Club, and he was a Kentucky Colonel. In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Watson, and his sister, Joan Watson.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Barbara Watson of Hopkinsville; his two daughters, Michelle (John) Cherry of Hopkinsville and Stephanie Watson of Lexington, Kentucky; his grandson, Logan Neil Cherry of Hopkinsville; his brother, Charles Watson of Belleville, Illinois; his niece, Maggie (Christopher) Sands of Mascoutah, Illinois; and his two great-nieces and great-nephew.

Roger will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his service to his community, his accomplishments, and most of all, his love and devotion to his family.

Ruth A. Mason, age 80, Christian County, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at her residence of natural causes. Ruth was born on July 4, 1946, in Christian County, the daughter of the late Clyde and Illa Owen Aldridge. She worked for Christian County Fiscal Court in the Treasurer’s Office. She had worked for Christian County Fiscal Court for over 60 years. Ruth was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Frank T. Mason Sr.; sons, Terry S. Mason and Mark A. Mason, Sr.; her daughter-in-law, Teresa Mason; and her brothers, Austin Aldridge and James Aldridge.

Survivors include her son, Frank T. (Tiffany A.) Mason, Jr. of Christian County; her sister, Gladys Finley of Cadiz, KY; her four grandchildren, Mark A. (Charity B.) Mason, Jr., Dylan A. Mason, Dakota D. (fiancé Lance Fowler) Mason, Frank T. Mason, III; and her three great-grandchildren, Ellowyn R. Mason, Matilda L. Mason and Sullivan L. Mason.

Clifford “Cliff” E. Simpson, age 88, of Hopkinsville, KY, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at his home of natural causes. Mr. Simpson was born in Christian County, KY, on June 10, 1938, the son of the late Oscar Hilmond Simpson and Nellie Louise Marsh Simpson. He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and had retired from being a mechanic at Collins Buick, Sisk Motor Company and being the operator of the garage on Virginia Street and the service station on North Main. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, James O. Simpson, Hilmond Simpson, Douglas Simpson, William Simpson; and his sisters, Ernestine Pendleton, Helen Good, Juanita Johnson, Pauline White.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Carol Ann Simpson of Hopkinsville, KY; his daughter, Andy Simpson (Anna) of Hopkinsville, KY; his brother, Kenneth (Diane) Simpson of Christian County, Milton Keith Simpson of Christian County; his sister, Carolyn (Charles) Sugg of Christian County, Nell Cooper of Mortons Gap, KY.

Austin W. Humphries, age 81, of Hopkinsville, KY, passed away from natural causes on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Lebanon Center of Rehabilitation. Mr. Humphries was born in Hopkinsville, KY, on October 1, 1944, the son of the late John Quincy Humphries and Vina Luro Holt Humphries. He was a proud US Army veteran serving his country during the Vietnam Era. He was a Christian man and retired after 27 years from Hopkinsville Water Authority as an operator. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his two brothers, Bunk and Billy Humphries; and his two sisters, Shirley Beltz ad Christine Long.

Survivors include beloved wife of 59 years, Carolyn Humphries of Hopkinsville; his son, Daniel Humphries of Hopkinsville; his daughter, Lisa (William) Campbell of Elkton, KY; his three grandchildren, Josh Campbell, Jamie Campbell, and Jacob (Cassie) Campbell; his eight great grandchildren, Maci, Jax, Kingston, Jase, Rhett, Shelby, Addison, and Cooper; along with several nieces and nephews.

David “Dave” Woodson Cook, age 85, of Clarksville, TN formerly of Hopkinsville, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at St. Thomas West Hospital of natural causes. The family has chosen cremation with a Celebration of Life Service to be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with Dennis Hood officiating. Burial of his cremains will be at a later date in Withers Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the service hour at 1:00 PM. Dave was born in Hopkinsville, KY, on October 31, 1940, the son of the late Winfred Woodson Cook and Mary Katherine Colley Cook. After graduating as Valedictorian from High School, he went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Murray State University. He went into the distilling business and transitioned into the whiskey barrel production industry. From that he went into Air Pollution Control as a Sales Engineer in Memphis. His last job was with Moltan, mining natural absorbents. He was a proud US Army Reserve veteran. He was a member of the Hopkinsville Asphalt Angels, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and Faith Baptist Church in Bartlett, TN. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Joiner Cook.

Survivors include his son, Michael Lindsey Cook of Clarksville, TN; his twin daughters, Laura Gayle (Jeffery) Cook-Burcham of Hillsboro, OR, Jennifer Lynn Cook of Newport, OR; his brother, Joseph Daniel (Mary Alice) Cook of Hopkinsville; his sisters, Susan Ellen Cook (Dennis) Hood of Cookeville, TN, Lou Ann Cook of Hopkinsville; his six grandchildren, Hannah Michelle (Stuart) Wagoner, Everett Woodson (Maggie Cornish) Cook, Jessica Lauren Dowdy, Abigal Katherine Boyer, Tatum Josephine Boyer, and Sophia Reese Boyer; and his one great grandson on the way.
