In Loving Memory of Travis Johnson
WAYNE - Travis Johnson, 59, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family. Although his passing leaves a tremendous void, his life was filled with love, creativity, hard work, and the lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Travis was born in Centralia, Washington, and raised in Toledo, Washington, where he grew up with his mother, Debbie (Sudano) Ledgerwood and stepfather Russ, and in Onalaska with his father Lon Johnson and stepmother Cheri and siblings: Tonya (Johnson) Hanway, Shirleen (Coverdell) Cole, Jason Johnson and Lindsay Johnson. He was preceded in death by his father, Lon Johnson of Onalaska, Washington, and stepfather Russell Coverdell of Toledo, Washington.
A proud 1985 graduate of Toledo High School, Travis was known for his adventurous spirit, his love of cars, spending time with friends, and his fun sense of humor. After high school, he continued his education at Christ for the Nations in Dallas, Texas. He later met Bambi, the love of his life. Their relationship became the foundation of a beautiful life together. They made their home in Denton, Texas, where they lived for many years before moving to Hammondsport, New York, in 2024.
In 2010, Travis started T. Johnson Construction, building a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship, creativity, and attention to detail. His work can be found throughout many homes, leaving his custom touch on every project he completed, as well as within the Dallas Stars hockey stadiums. Travis had a rare ability to see something ordinary and transform it into something extraordinary.
A man of many talents, Travis was an incredible artist, a gifted woodworker, a skilled builder, and a talented mechanic. He found joy in working on his many cars and creating things with his hands. Whether he was designing, repairing, building, or simply sharing his knowledge with others, Travis’s passion and talent were evident in everything he did.
Travis was a loving husband to Bambi and a father to his children: Doran (Dani), Alexandria, Connor, Natalie, Nicole, and Cameron. When he married Bambi, he opened his heart completely to her four children: Becca (Andrew), Brittany (Nathan), Ashlynn (Hector), and Cody (Bethany). From the very beginning, Travis loved and embraced them as his own, creating a blended family built on love, loyalty, and connection.
Travis was also a proud “Pop-Tart” to his grandchildren Aubrey, McKenna, Paige and Elijah. His family brought him immense pride and happiness, and the memories, lessons, and love he shared with them will continue to live on for generations.
Travis leaves behind his beloved wife, Bambi; his children, stepchildren, and grandchildren; his mother, Debbie (Scott); his siblings, Tonya (Chad), Shirleen (Aaron), Jason and Lindsay; along with extended family, lifelong friends, and the many people whose lives he touched through his work and friendship.
Travis was a man who left his mark everywhere he went—not only in the homes and structures he built but in the hearts of the people who knew him. In many of the homes he remodeled, he often signed a hidden message, “Travis was Here” written somewhere beneath a floor or in a wall. It was his quiet playful way of signing his work. Today, those words have become a fitting reminder of the life he lived. His craftsmanship lives on in the home he built, and his love, kindness, humor, and generous spirit will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
Before Travis's passing, his family was blessed with the opportunity to celebrate his life while he was still with them. His siblings, children, and grandchildren drove and flew in from all corners of the U.S. and surrounded him with love for a week-long celebration around his bedside. They shared stories, laughter, tears, and countless memories—these wonderful days were filled with gratitude, love, and the chance to tell him just how much he meant to them. It became a treasured gift that his family will carry with them always.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
