Andrew G. Seaman, 50 a resident of State Route 36 in Arkport, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday August 30, 2026.
Born in Hornell, he was the son of George Mark Seaman and Jayne Jones Seaman Monaghan. He was a graduate of Arkport Central School, Class of 1996 and had resided all his life in Arkport. He had been employed as a domiciliary assistant at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Bath for the past 20 years.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Surviving are his wife Kati Jo ( Vanskiver) Seaman, 3 daughters Toree (Clancey) Miles of Canisteo, Hattie Seaman of Arkport and Cecelia Seaman of Arkport, his step sister, Brandi Miles of Wallace, his step brother Michael (Farrell) Monaghan of Hornell, his step-father, Nicholas Monaghan of Arkport, 2 grandchildren, Paisley Miles and Zayden Miles.
The family will be present to receive friends at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell on Friday September 11, 2026 from 2 PM until 4 PM at which time a Memorial Service will be held at 4pm with Rev. Michelle Ormsby Serra officiating.

William W. Ide, 95, of Canisteo, passed away peacefully on Wednesday (August 26, 2026) at Elderwood at Hornell. Bill was born July 13, 1931 in Almond the son of Harry and Viola VanOrman Ide. He had resided most all his life in the Almond, Alfred and Canisteo area. Bill was a graduate of Alfred Almond Central School and had proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict.
Bill owned and operated Ide’s Grocery Store in Alfred for several years, and later retired from working at Crowley’s Dairy in Arkport. After retirement, he was employed as a meat cutter for Wilson’s Beef Farm in Canaseraga until the ripe old age of 83 declaring “I have worked enough in my life”.
Bill loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 59 years, Vicky, his sisters, Harriett Jay, Phyllis Drake, Patricia Fairchild, and Shirley Sisson, as well as his brother Johnny Ide, and grandson Gregory Ide.
Surviving are his daughters, Barbara Hurd of Hornell, Laurie (Tom Stuart ) Hurd of Canisteo and his sons, Eric (Tammy) Ide of Burns, and Jason Ide of Tennessee. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service with military honors on September 18, 2026 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Almond at 1:00 PM. Rev. Tony Ross will officiate.

Scott Lewis Baker
Hornell
Scott Baker age 59, of Albion Street, passed away peacefully on Friday (August 21, 2026) at home surrounded by family.
He was born in Corning, NY, the son of Roy Lester Baker Jr. and Nancy (Doty) Baker, graduating from Hornell High School, and was a lifelong area resident. In 1985 he met Niki Heather Alexander, and they married on May 27, 1995. Scott started his career working for his parents; driving cab for J.B’s Taxi in Hornell. He later went on to work for the Automotive Department at Wal-Mart for 27 years, before being forced to retire in November 2025 due to illness. Scott was not always a cat lover, but later cats decided they liked him, so at the time of his passing he left many cats behind.
He was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Nancy, his sister Tina Davila, his brothers Jeffrey L. Baker, and Monroe Monty Keith Bates.
Surviving are his wife Niki Baker, his son Dylan (Elisha) Lafler, grandson Lucas Lafler, granddaughter Arabella Rose Lafler, 2 brothers Roy (Doreen) Baker III, Kelly Baker, several brothers and sisters in law, many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
The family will be present on Saturday (August 29, 2026) at the Bender Brown & Powers Funeral Home 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell from 3-6pm with a Funeral Service to follow at 6pm with Rev. Aaron Alexander officiating.

Deborah Ann Woodruff 77, a resident of Couty Route 68 in Alfred Station
passed away Tuesday (August 18, 2026) at her home. Born in Neterland Texas, June 14, 1949, she was the daughter of James and Carol Cornes. Deborah, a registered nurse, worked for several years in Texas and Louisiana and moved to this area about 10 years ago. She was then employed at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Bath.
She was predeceased by her parents, and her husband John Woodruff in 2020
Surviving is her brother Paul Cornes of New Mexico, brothers-in-law, Richard Woodruff of Alfred Station and James (Patty) Woodruff of Pennsylvania, her niece Meghan (Ben Fish) Woodruff and her nephew Kyle (Melissa) Woodruff.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside committal service will be held at Alfred Rural Cemetery on Wednesday August 26, 2026 at 2:00 PM.

Lois L. Stephens, 92, a resident of County Route 68 in Hornell, passed away Tuesday (August 18, 2026) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Born in Hornell February 28, 1934, she had made her home in Almond and Hornell. She was a graduate of Alfred Almond Central School and had been employed there in their food service program prior to her retirement in 1996. In her early life, she had been employed at the Evening Tribune from 1955 until 1966.
Lois was predeceased by her parents, her first husband James Hall, and her second husband, Robert Stephens as well as her brother, Donald Heers.
Surviving are her son, Kenneth Hall of Hornell, step daughters, Patricia Soper of Bath and Roberta Scott of Arkansas, step sons, Thomas Hall of Buffalo and James Stephens, 8 Grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours. A service of committal will be held on Monday (August 24, 2026) at 11 AM at Bath National Cemetery. Pastor Lenny Fuller will officiate.

Joseph C. Callahan 84, passed away Thursday Aug. 6, 2026 at the Maple City Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Hornell.
Joe was born in Hornell December 25, 1941, the son of John J. and Helen Flohr Callahan. He was a graduate of Canisteo Central School and had proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1959 until 1963.
Joe received his Masters Degree in Psychology, and was employed in several locations throughout the country. He returned to Hornell in his later years.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Surviving are 3 sons, Richard Callahan, Jon Callahan, and Stephen Callahan, his sister, Joan Coleman of Hornell, and his brother, Michael Callahan of Liverpool, New York.
A graveside committal service with Military Honors was held on Thursday (Aug. 20, 2026) at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont. Deacon Robert McCormnick officiated.

William F. Hebert, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer and kidney failure. Born on January 11, 1947, in North Tonawanda, New York, Bill was a man whose life was marked by kindness, dedication, and an unwavering spirit. Son of Clarence and Eleanor Hebert, Bill was predeceased by his parents, his brother Charles "Butch" Hebert, and his sister Nancy Manchester.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Susan, his sister Judy Riley, brother Mark (Diana) Hebert, Butch’s wife Teen, his two children, William D. and Lauri, both residing in Virginia, six granddaughters, one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews. Bill married Susan Ralyea on August 29, 1992, in Wellsville, NY, and together they built a life full of love and shared memories. His career saw him working in maintenance and as a machine operator at Hallmark Plastics in Tonawanda, before concluding his professional journey as a mechanic at D&D Motors in Houston, Texas. A man of diverse interests, Bill was an avid bowler and had a passion for boat racing and all things mechanical. He found joy in collecting ceramic eagles and spent countless cherished hours playing cards and board games with his family and friends.

Known for his generous spirit, Bill was always the first to offer help to anyone in need, particularly when it came to mechanical issues. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held from 5PM to 7PM on August 20, 2026, at the Brown and Powers Funeral Home on West Avenue in Angelica, New York. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at University of Rochester oncology and nephrology in Wellsville and Rochester for their exceptional care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to Sully and the Ladies in Pink at 9605 Nunda-Dalton Road, Dalton, NY 14836. Though he has left this world, Bill’s legacy of kindness, laughter, and love will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Guo Yuan He, 90, of Knoll Top Court, Arkport, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning (August 12, 2026) at home with loved ones.

Born in Suzhou, China on November 29, 1935 to Bo Ming He and Hui Ying Zhang, Guo Yuan immigrated to the United States in 1994. He was the second of four siblings, each of whom remembers him for his generosity, loyalty, and fierce dedication to the family. During his years in China, Guo Yuan was an attorney to a glass factory workers’ union, a vocation which allowed him to bring his passion for helping others to his working life.

Following the death of his first wife, Jin Yu Zhong, Guo Yuan followed his daughter, Esther “Wei” Haines, to the United States, where he resided for thirty-one years. Guo Yuan spent his early years in the US in the Rockland County, NY area, where he met his late wife, Beth Haines-He, shortly after arriving in the States. He eventually settled in Canisteo, NY, where he lived with his wife until suffering from a serious stroke in 2013.

As a member of the Canisteo community, Guo Yuan was known for his sociability. Though he did not speak English fluently, he always found his own way to connect with people despite the language barrier. Prior to his stroke, which left him paralyzed on one side, Guo Yuan would ride his bike daily into town, where he would grab a Diet Coke and an anchovy slice from the local pizza shop. Along the way, he would always make the time to chat with neighbors and other members of the Canisteo community. His family continues to be inspired by, and in awe of, his gift for making friends in the most unlikely places. Though proudly Chinese, Guo Yuan also loved America and American culture. He loved watching westerns, especially if they starred his favorite actor, John Wayne.

Above all, Guo Yuan would want to be remembered for his art, which brought much joy not only to his family, but to the local community as well. A trained artist and master calligrapher, Guo Yuan sought to make the beauty of Chinese brush painting available to all; art, he believed, was something anyone was capable of. He frequently visited local schools to teach guest lessons on Chinese calligraphy. Prior to his stroke, he had been teaching monthly calligraphy lessons at the Wimodaughsian Free Library in Canisteo.

Guo Yuan is predeceased by his parents, his first and second wife, his younger sister Xue Mei He, and his beloved daughter-in-law Ann E. Haines. He is survived by his daughters, Esther “Wei” Haines (Todd) of Arkport and Anna “Qing” He of Suzhou, China; his brother, Guo Bao He of Suzhou and sister Xue Zhen He of Suzhou; and his grandchildren, Rachel Haines of Arkport, Jonathan Haines of Arkport, and Grace Fan of Pittsburgh, PA.

A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hornell YMCA Music and Arts Program.

Simon ‘Pete’ Potoeski, 59, passed away Wednesday August 12th at Arnot Ogden Hospital, Elmira Ny after a hard-fought battle with Cancer surrounded by his wife and children.
Simon was born March 9, 1967, in Nanticoke, Pa; The son of Thomas M and Dorthy (Long) Potoeski Sr. He attended Northwest Area Highschool in Shickshinny Pa. Simon joined the Army (National Guard) in 1984 and was honorably discharged in 1992. He was proud to serve his country, and it was an honor to him. He worked from an early age for Dave’s Sanitation, Airport Sand and Gravel, Maria Joseph Manor and JP Mascaro until 2002 when a heart attack led to disability status. After moving to New York in 2002 he helped at Hurd It All Garage with mechanics and Watkin Glen Raceway during race season. Simon was an avid hunter, fisherman and dabbled in mechanics, otherwise he was a great supporter of all his children and grandchildren. They were his life, his whole being. There wasn’t anything Simon wouldn’t do to help others if he could.
Simon married on July 3, 1989, to Melissa M (Cragle), they celebrated 37 years lovingly together, they were always together and supported their children and grandchildren. Simon was a cherished father to Joshua R. Potoeski Sr, Woodhull NY, Kristen E. Warrick, Youngstown OH, Melissa Ann Potoeski (Christopher), Woodhull NY, and Joseph M. Potoeski (Cassasndra) Woodhull NY. Many children were added throughout the years that were not biological, but he loved them as his own. Roberta (Bobbi Sue) White, Denton NC, and Kelly Gower, Brooksville FL were very near to his heart and only to name a few. Simon is also survived by his brother Thomas M Potoeski Jr, Plymoth PA, Timothy Potoeski, Sweet Valley PA, Anthony (Diane) Potoeski, Hunlock Creek PA, Brad Potoeskie, Plymoth PA, Theresa (Randy) Gray, Plymoth PA, Ann (Mike) Harrison, Benton PA, Frank Lange, Painted Post NY, Lori Lange, Woodhull NY. Also, Brother-in-Law James Deyo Sr, Hunlock Creek PA, Robert ‘Dave’ Jones, Shickshinny PA, Jean Ann (Dale) Gordon, Bloomsburg PA, Gina DeRosa, Bath NY, and his adopted ‘Momma’ Ella Mae Herrington, Woodhull NY. Grandchild Ayden, Madison, Christopher, Jovanna, Kaylee, Donzella, Larinda-Jo, Malcolm, Joshua Jr. Dakota, and Kinsley. Also, many adopted grandchildren, all of whom he cherished and loved greatly. Simon is survived by several nieces and nephews, of whom he cherished them all.
Simon enjoyed camping, and when he was able to, going on cruises with family and friends. His biggest passion was supporting his family.
Simon was preceded in death by his parents, sister Leatha Deyo, best friend Joseph Plish, Tony Monero, Sister-in-Law Melinda, Brother-in-Law Jeff, and In-Laws Joseph Cragle, Joyce (Hartman) Cragle and France (DeRosa) Cragle, also goddaughter Margaret Shoemaker.
Simon was cremated and a celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 3pm at Community Church, Woodhull with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating, a gathering will take place following at Woodhull Community Center Gym.
Also a celebration of life will be held in PA on Saturday August 29th, 2026, family will post detail.

Michael Charles Blazys

Outdoorsman, master mechanic, dog lover, fabulous cook and good friend. That was our Mike.

Born November 20, 1959, in Rochester, NY to Ignatius (Iggy) and Catherine Barbara Blazys, Mike left us on August 10, 2026 after a brain aneurysm.

After two years at Alfred University, Mike worked on his own as a master mechanic. There was nothing Mike couldn't repair, whether it was renovating a derelict trailer into a wonderful summer retreat on Chaumont Bay, or keeping brother John's trawler afloat on Narragansett Bay.

Ever the restless wanderer, he lived and worked in Palm Springs for a time. In later years he lived with his beloved Suzy in Syracuse.

After Suzy's death, he worked as a mechanic and jack of all trades for Lippincott’s Rubbish in Hornell.

He leaves far too soon his big brother John and his wife Vickie; his sister Barbara and her family and his dog companion Finn. He also leaves his other family, Lenny and Jean Taylor their daughter Sandra.

He was predeceased by his parents and his Suzy.
A private gathering will take place.
