When your partner(s) or loved one expresses a complaint or hurt feelings, rather than immediately discuss your intent or perspective, slow down to empathize, get curious about your impact, and/or offer a repair.
*After* there’s been repair or better understanding of the original complaint or hurt, then there may be space to discuss your intent or perspective. When we jump too quickly to explain our intent, it can unintentionally land as dismissive or invalidating of our impact on others.
