Meet Dr. Shelby Byrd!
Dr. Byrd is a licensed psychologist and the Assessment Director at Northeast Georgia Psychological Services, where she has been a valued member of the practice since August 2021. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Georgia College & State University in 2012, followed by a master’s degree in Clinical-Counseling Psychology from Valdosta State University in 2014 and a PhD in School Psychology from Louisiana State University in 2019.
Dr. Byrd completed her APA-accredited internship through the Nebraska Internship Consortium in Professional Psychology at Boys Town. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Boys Town Center for Behavioral Health in Omaha, Nebraska, where she continued to serve as a staff psychologist for an additional year before returning to her home state of Georgia.
Dr. Byrd provides individual and family therapy to children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing a wide range of social, emotional, and behavioral concerns. Her areas of expertise include anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, self-harm behaviors, disordered eating, interpersonal and family conflict, and body-focused repetitive behaviors such as hair pulling, nail biting, and skin picking.
She utilizes evidence-based treatment approaches tailored to each client’s individual needs, including acceptance- and mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Dr. Byrd also has extensive training and experience in parent behavior management training and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), helping families develop effective strategies to address behavioral concerns and strengthen relationships at home.
