Community Clarification

We want to take a moment to address what appears to be a misconception about Scars and Stripes, Inc.

First, we want to thank the Arkansas Diamonds Arena Football for selecting Scars and Stripes as the featured nonprofit during their first home game of the season. The Diamonds do an outstanding job of highlighting different local nonprofits throughout the season, helping raise awareness for organizations making a difference in our community. We were truly honored to be chosen.

To clarify, this partnership was for community awareness and was not a financial sponsorship.

We also want to express our sincere appreciation to the City of Hot Springs Community Resource Center for allowing us to operate from their facility at no cost. Their support provides us with a place to serve veterans, and we are incredibly grateful. However, Scars and Stripes does not receive operating funds from the Community Resource Center.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a belief that Scars and Stripes has significant funding or major sponsors. At this time, that is simply not the case. We do not have corporate sponsors or unlimited financial resources. Our organization has been built through volunteer efforts, personal sacrifice, and a commitment to ensuring veterans and their families receive the help they need.

We aren't sharing this for sympathy, we simply want our community to have accurate information. The perception that we are fully funded can unintentionally discourage individuals, businesses, and organizations from supporting our mission because they assume our needs are already being met.

Every donation, every partnership, every volunteer, and every opportunity to share our mission helps us continue serving veterans in our community.

Thank you to everyone who has believed in Scars and Stripes and supportes our mission. We remain committed to Turning Scars into Strength and serving those who have served us.

I’m planning an upcoming episode of the Scars & Stripes Unfiltered Podcast focused on veteran service organizations and the experiences veterans and their families have had with them.

My goal is to have an open, honest, and respectful conversation about which organizations have made a positive impact, where gaps in services still exist, and how support may differ from one community to another.

One topic I also want to discuss is the importance of collaboration. If our mission is truly to serve veterans, then veteran organizations should be supporting one another whenever possible. No single organization can meet every need, and working together through referrals, partnerships, and shared resources ultimately benefits the veterans we all serve. Unfortunately, that spirit of collaboration can sometimes get lost, and I think it’s an important conversation to have.

If you’re a veteran or a veteran family member, I’d love to hear about your experiences—both positive and negative. I’m also interested in learning whether the quality and availability of services varies from one area to another. Your perspective can help identify what is working, what isn’t, and how we can strengthen the network of support for those who have served.

If you’d be interested in sharing your story or participating in the discussion, please reach out. My hope is that this conversation leads to stronger partnerships, greater accountability, and, most importantly, better outcomes for our veterans.

We are working with two fully disabled veterans in our community who are facing home emergencies.

One veteran is without air conditioning during this incredible heat. The cost to restore their A/C is approximately $1,600.

Another veteran is dealing with significant plumbing and flooding issues at home. The estimated cost for those repairs is approximately $1,300.

These repairs will provide dignity, hope, and safety.

There is currently no funding to help them - if you'd like to help, we're accepting donations through Scars and Stripes.

When making your donation, you can leave a note to designate where you'd like your gift to go:

🇺🇸 Veteran A/C — to help restore air conditioning for the first veteran.

🇺🇸 Veteran Flooding/Plumbing — to help cover plumbing and flooding repairs for the second veteran.
