Yesterday was one of those days that puts life back into perspective.
One minute, you’re driving home, talking about ordinary things and thinking about what comes next. A few minutes later, you’re standing on the side of the road watching your car burn to the ground — and realizing just how little the things matter.
We walked away.
We are safe.
And today, I am incredibly grateful.
Life is unpredictable. We don’t know what tomorrow holds, and sometimes we don’t even know what the next five minutes hold.
So love your people.
Spend time with your family. Call the friend you’ve been meaning to call. Say “I love you” more often. Show up for one another. Laugh together. Make the memories. Take the trip. Sit on the porch a little longer.
And maybe most importantly — let some things go.
Forgive.
Stop carrying grudges that are heavier than the thing that caused them. You don’t have to agree with someone, forget what happened, or allow unhealthy behavior back into your life in order to forgive. Sometimes forgiveness simply means deciding that hurt is no longer going to take up valuable space in your heart.
Life is too short to spend it angry over things that, in the end, simply don’t matter.
Yesterday could have ended very differently for us. Instead, I woke up this morning with an overwhelming sense of gratitude — for my family, our friends, the people who stopped to help, the firefighters who came, and most of all, for God’s protection.
Cars can be replaced.
Things can be replaced.
People cannot.
Hold your people close. Give grace freely. Forgive when you can. Let go of what you don’t need to carry.
And thank God for another day. ❤️
Faith. Family. Friends. Forgiveness. Gratitude.
That’s the stuff worth holding onto.
