Hot Springs National Park Rotary had a funtastic field trip to Arkansas School For Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts this week. Can we just say that their new Executive Director, Dr. Derek McDowell certainly kept us entertained with his presentation. Hot Springs is fortunate to have ASMSA as part of our community and the future is sure looking bright with Dr. McDowell leading the charge.

Friday Night Lights Are Back Soon!

What a standout program our area coaches have in store this year! Hot Springs National Park Rotary made a field trip to National Park College for our annual coaches roundtable.

Richard Poole served as our "official" to make certain the coaches stayed inline, and he actually only had to throw the flag once. Hearing from some of our high school football head coaches—and meeting the players who represent their schools—never fails to inspire. While winning is always the goal, it was powerful to hear how much emphasis these coaches place on character, discipline, and personal growth.

Their approaches may differ, but their message was unified: success is built long before the first whistle blows. They talked about accountability, preparation, teamwork, and the kind of perseverance that shapes not just athletes, but future leaders. These values reach far beyond the field and into the classrooms, workplaces, and communities these young men will one day lead.

A heartfelt thank you to our coaches for investing in the next generation and visiting us with an outlook for this season. Here’s to a safe and successful season for Lakeside School District with Coach Garren Rockwell, Lake Hamilton High School with Coach Justin Bigham, and Hot Springs World Class High School and Coach Darrell Burnett.

Libby Harrington introduced our speaker, Michael Millard. In 2019, Michael became the Market Manager of Pastoral Services for Arkansas, and soon thereafter was promoted to Market Director of Mission Integration with CHI St. Vincent. Developing an affinity for clinical ethics while studying at Baptist, Michael earned a certification as a Healthcare Ethics Consultant - Certified from the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities in 2019 and was recertified in 2024. As Mission lead in the Arkansas Market, Michael has responsibility for Pastoral and Spiritual Care, Clinical Ethics, Formation, and Community Benefits and Outreach.

Some of you that did not make this year's Rotary banquet for Hot Springs National Park Rotary, you really missed out. After Justin Nicklas and Tim Metcalf exchanged pins, they did their own little happy dance with a secret handshake at the end.
