Meet Alan J. Wilson, MD, a family medicine doctor practicing primary care at Ochsner Health Center - Covington, who brings a background in emergency medicine to primary care.

"I believe healthcare works best as a partnership,” Dr. Wilson said. “My goal is to educate patients, involve them in every decision and create a treatment plan that fits their individual goals and lifestyle."

Dr. Wilson made the shift to primary care because he wanted to reach patients before a health crisis brought them through the emergency room doors. Today, he finds the most meaning in watching his patients take control of their health.

"Primary care allows me to focus on prevention, long-term health and helping patients improve their quality of life," Dr. Wilson said. “Whether it’s lowering blood pressure, losing weight, managing diabetes or simply feeling better, being part of that journey is incredibly rewarding.”

Outside of work, Dr. Wilson enjoys spending time with his wife, staying active and exploring new technology.

Andrew C. Schroth, MD, an internal medicine doctor practicing primary care at Ochsner Health Center - Metairie in Metairie, Louisiana, has been part of the Ochsner team since high school.

"I started at Ochsner in high school as a volunteer in patient transport, completed my residency with Ochsner and decided to stay to help the local community I was born and raised in," Dr. Schroth said.

For Dr. Schroth, primary care means caring for every patient with a personalized approach.

"Every patient is different with different backgrounds [and] situations that need to be taken into account,” Dr. Schroth said. “You must treat the entire patient and not just the symptoms or the disease.”

Dr. Schroth is passionate about serving the New Orleans community and assisting patients with general health issues, as well as directing patients to see the correct specialists. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing music and cooking Southern cuisine.

Our 5th Annual Men's Health Event at the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club brought our community together for free screenings, expert guidance and meaningful conversations about men's health.

Together, we delivered:
70 health screenings (blood pressure, glucose, BMI and cholesterol)
60 PSA screenings
29 brain health surveys
11 blood donations
6 neighbors connected to primary care

Our expert panel, Yvens Laborde MD, William Bennett MD, Bridget Bogert MD and Gregory Lacy II MD, led powerful discussions on brain, heart and prostate health. Education came from Johnson & Johnson and Ochsner MD Anderson, with screenings by Ochsner Corporate Wellness.

To mark this milestone, Jeffrey S. Kuo MD announced the donation of two AEDs to the Zulu organization.

A special thank-you to our Ochsner Serves volunteers, BRAVE ERG and Physician and APP Council for making this day possible. Here's to many more years of serving our community.
