November is National Caregivers Month, and our team at Zion Healthcare of Cypress is here to help.
The world “caregiver” covers the 45 million unpaid family members, in addition to 2.6 million paid professionals who provide care for individuals. Like any job, there are specific responsibilities caregivers assume.
They help people with personal needs such as bathing, dressing, and grooming. But they will also help make sure a loved one is clean, their bedding is changed, and even provide help in the bathroom. Caregivers also help individuals with mobility, transportation, and running errands.
Most importantly, caregivers can provide companionship by joining loved ones when they watch TV, work puzzles, and simply conversing. Letting individuals know they are not alone is probably the greatest service a caregiver provides.
As we celebrate the caregivers in our community, let’s commit ourselves to raise awareness of family caregiver issues, work to find ways to support their efforts, encourage them to remember to take time for themselves, and, most importantly, celebrate them with our words and actions.
Contact us today if we can help you with a respite stay for a loved one; we are here to help!
