Since the tragic floods on July 4th I have been crying, praying, and watching hopefully for a few miracles within the grief and sadness. As someone who grew up in Houston, attended a similar camp in Texas, and had many friends who attended Camp Mystic, this tragedy hits close to home. I am so grateful for all of the support being offered to the children and young adults who have gone through this traumatic experience. However, I can't help but also think of the parents who went through their worst nightmare, no matter what the outcome. We as parents carry so much on our shoulders and so often, we sacrafice of ourselves so our children can be taken care of first. I would encourage us all to, in addition, remember that we can not take care of others well if we don't care for ourselves first. The experience of the roller coaster of emotions parents are going through right now is something that can have long term effect if not processed and tended to. I encourage each parent to take a moment to check in with themselves and their mental health. It isn't selfish to take care of yourself in these times. I am offering reduced fee sessions to those affected. Don't hesitate to reach out.
