COMFORT & GREATNESS ARE INCONGRUENT

You cannot have a great calling/purpose on your life and expect to live in comfort.

The Great Interrupter will inconvenience and interrupt your comfortable places.

Your plans will get disrupted like it or not.

We may not like it, thats expected but we will grow through it, bc growth is part of the call. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ•Šโœจ๏ธ

Count it all joy!

The most important conversation youโ€™ll ever have is the one with yourself each day. Because that voice, the one no one else hears, shapes everything you do.

It decides whether you give up or keep going and whether you shrink or rise when faced with challenges and setbacks.

You can speak to yourself in ways that drain your energy or in ways that give you energy. You can be your own harshest critic or your greatest source of encouragement.

You can let fear narrate your story or you can let faith do the talking.

So pay attention to the words you use when talking to yourself. Because the moment you change that inner conversation, everything around you begins to change too.

This morning I woke up with a simple thought that felt like it came straight from the Lord:

"Hey, let's get that joy back."

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Not happiness based on circumstances.
Not temporary excitement.
But real joy.

The kind of joy that comes from being connected to God, grateful for what He's done & doing in your life, how far you've come how far he's taking you and together where you're going.

Life has a way of wearing us down.

Responsibilities, disappointments, stress, loss, and endless distractions can slowly steal what God never intended us to live without.

Maybe today is an invitation to return.

To laugh again.
To hope again.
To worship again.
To dream again

Hey, let's get that joy back!

โœจ๏ธSurrendering Every Form Of Lossโœจ๏ธ

Heavenly Father,
Today I place into Your hands every loss I have felt, every loss I have known, every loss I have perceived, and even the losses that exist only in my fears, assumptions, imagination, or misinterpretation.

I surrender the things that were truly taken, the things that changed, the doors that closed, the opportunities that passed, the relationships that shifted, and the seasons that ended. I also surrender the stories I have told myself, the "what ifs," the disappointments, and the burdens I have carried as though they were permanent or forever.

Lord, I hand to You my real losses and my perceived losses. I give You what was lost in fact, and what only feels lost because I cannot yet see the bigger, clearer picture of what You are doing.

Holy Spirit, where I have experienced genuine grief, pain & discomfort please comfort, heal, & sooth anything that has been damaged inside of me.

Where I have misunderstood a situation, give me clarity. Where fear has exaggerated loss, give me truth. Where disappointment has clouded my vision, give me perspective. Where I am mourning what is gone, help me recognize what remains.

Teach me to trust that You are not limited by what I have lost. You are able to restore, redeem, replace, rebuild, and bring beauty from ashes. Nothing surrendered to You is ever wasted.
I release my need to understand everything. I release my attachment to outcomes. I release the weight of carrying yesterday into today.

Fill every place of emptiness with Your presence, every place of confusion with Your wisdom, and every place of sorrow with Your peace. Help me see not only what is behind me, but also what is before me. Open my eyes to the gifts, opportunities, relationships, growth, and blessings that still remain. Let gratitude become greater than regret and faith become stronger than fear.

Today I lay every loss at Your feet. Every loss that is real, perceived, known, unknown, and/or imagined. As I fully let go & release all of that which is stored & held in me I receive the overwhelming peace of Your Holy Spirit in exchange. Peace & healing that surpasses my understanding of every painful event & human experience.

In Jesus' name,
Amen. ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ•Šโœจ๏ธ

SPIRITUAL APATHY โ€“ lets talk about it!

I feel like this is something that every believer goes through at least one in their journey of faith. It may show in times of spiritual dryness, burnout, exhaustion, extended times of spiritual warfare, or due to continual hardship and difficulty for extended periods of time without periods of renewal.

For me personally, Iโ€™ve observed this showing up a little more often in recent years, especially during and after the COVID era. It seems to surface at least once a year and may last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.

_______________________________________

POST INTENTION:

My hope is that this explorative breakdown helps at least one person identify spiritual apathy, find comfort through the Holy Spirit, and be gracefully guided into a place of renewal, restored sensitivity, and deeper intimacy with God.

This topic feels especially personal to me right now, as Iโ€™m currently taking a sabbatical from booking any inner healing trauma coaching sessions so that I can intentionally focus on renewal, rest, reconnecting deeply with God myself, and being fully present in quality time with my wife. ๐Ÿค

_______________________________________

WORKING DEFINITION:

Spiritual apathy is a condition of the heart and mind where a person becomes emotionally, mentally, and spiritually disengaged from God, resulting in diminished passion, sensitivity, conviction, hunger, and responsiveness toward spiritual truth and intimacy with Him. We could call it spiritual numbness, dullness in spirit, feeling flat or blunted in our connection to God.

Over time, the soul can become fatigued. The fire that once felt alive begins to feel dim. Prayer feels harder. Scripture feels quieter. Worship feels distant. Passion weakens. Sensitivity decreases. The heart slowly drifts into this dull, survival, going through the motions kinda mode.

_______________________________________

HOW IT SHOWS UP โ“๏ธโ“๏ธโ“๏ธ

It often presents itself as indifference, numbness, passivity, distraction, or going through the motions without genuine inward connection or desire. There's a clear deficit. Passion, inspiration & joy are missing or at an all time low.

Spiritual apathy is often a gradual drifting caused by exhaustion, disappointment, compromise, unresolved pain, overstimulation, prolonged spiritual neglect, or giving at a high level but not receiving or refilling.

At its core, spiritual apathy is not the absence of religious activity, but the fading of spiritual attentiveness, affection, sensitivity and pursuit toward God.

_______________________________________

WHAT CAUSES ITโ“๏ธโ“๏ธโ“๏ธ

People often think: โ€œSomething is wrong with me spiritually.โ€โ€ฆwhen in reality there are understandable emotional, psychological, and spiritual processes behind why their heart became dull. Lets explore a few possible reasons without being exhaustive in nature.

Examples of What Can Lead to Spiritual Apathy

1. Chronic Disappointment

Someone prayedโ€ฆ believedโ€ฆ hopedโ€ฆ waitedโ€ฆ
โ€ฆand nothing changed.

Examples:
โ— unanswered prayers
โ— prolonged illness
โ— infertility
โ— financial hardship
โ— repeated relational heartbreak
โ— watching a loved one suffer
โ— leadership betrayal

Eventually the heart protects itself by lowering expectation. The person stops engaging deeply because hope became painful.

_______________________________________

2. Emotional Burnout

Many people are not rebellious. They are just exhausted.

Examples:
โ— caregiving fatigue
โ— nonstop stress
โ— overworking
โ— ministry burnout
โ— parenting exhaustion
โ— chronic anxiety
โ— nervous system overload

Eventually the soul says:
โ€œI donโ€™t have the energy to feel anymore.โ€

That emotional shutdown spills over into our spiritual life.

_______________________________________

3. Constant Distraction & Dopamine Overload

Modern culture constantly overstimulates people.

Examples:
โ— endless scrolling
โ— online drama, division, negative news
โ— constant entertainment
โ— social media comparison
โ— inability to sit still
โ— fragmented attention span

The nervous system becomes conditioned for stimulation rather than stillness. And God is often encountered in stillness.

_______________________________________

4. Hidden Sin or Compromise

None of us are perfect we all have areas that are needing the transformational, healing power of Christ. So with that said lets approach this area with grace, understanding and conviction not shame, condemnation, or self hatred.

One frees a person up for change while the other grid locks people into deeper bo***ge.

Examples:
โ— po*******hy
โ— bitterness, racism, hatred
โ— gossip, defamation, running ones mouth
โ— pride - excessive self worth
โ— secret addictions
โ— dishonesty - & internally justifying
โ— resentment - hidden hatred or offense
โ— living a double life

Conviction becomes quieter & eventually non-existent when ignored.

Concerning the topic of conviction, the only person that can truly deal with you at the deepest level is you and the Holy Spirit. Nobody else is here to police you, thats a personal responsibility that every mature person decides to take on.

If something is eating you or someone you know up on the inside it's recommend to find a trusted person, friend, mentor or professional to get that crap out & on the table without judgment, shame or punishment.
_______________________________________

5. Trauma or Unprocessed Pain

Sometimes apathy is actually self-protection.

Examples:
โ— abandonment
โ— betrayal
โ— abuse
โ— church hurt
โ— rejection
โ— grief
โ— loss
โ— humiliation

The heart learns: โ€œFeeling deeply is dangerous & too painful.โ€ So it disconnects emotionallyโ€ฆ and eventually spiritually too. Inner healing trauma work & mind renewal is necessary here along with counseling.

_______________________________________

6. Repetitive Religious Performance Without Intimacy

People can become spiritually exhausted trying to perform for God rather than commune with Him.

Examples:
โ— striving Christianity
โ— legalism
โ— serving without resting
โ— constantly โ€œdoingโ€ but never receiving
โ— external religion without a internal connection

Living like this will inevitably cause our spiritual life to become mechanical, robotic, dull, & joyless.

_______________________________________

HOW DO PEOPLE CLIMB OUT OF ITโ“๏ธโ“๏ธโ“๏ธ

โœจ๏ธ Awareness โ€“ healing often begins with recognition. Many people feel shame before understanding.

โœจ๏ธ Honesty With God โ€“ no polished prayers just real & raw prayers. David prayed emotionally honest prayers constantly.

โœจ๏ธ Rest + Stillness โ€“ not escapism. Sometimes the nervous system itself needs a calming break from constant stimulation.

โœจ๏ธ Re-engaging Spiritual Sensitivity Through:

โ— worship - personal or congregational
โ— silence - stillness before God
โ— scripture meditation - draw life & hope
โ— gratitude - count your blessings
โ— journaling - process difficult life events
โ— prayer walks - clear the mind
โ— genuine heartfelt repentance
โ— fasting - my favorite breakthrough tool
โ— attending a retreat or revival service
โ— crying - being emotionally vulnerable before God

These help awaken & resensitize the heart ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ•Šโœจ๏ธ๐Ÿ™

____________________________________

Spiritual apathy does not mean God has abandoned you. Often, it means your soul has become exhausted, wounded, distracted, or numb โ€” and God is gently calling you back to a place of renewed life, sensitivity, & intimacy.

Ultimately, spiritual apathy is not healed by mere discipline/do more, work harder mentality. It is healed through SPIRITUAL RENEWAL โ€“ simply being, being with God through quality time where your soul and spirit are revived & renewed. And renewal may look a little different for every person.

As I close this up theres a verse that coming to mind with a powerful promise attached to it:

โ€œSeek Him and you will find Him.โ€ โ€” Jeremiah 29:13

๐Ÿ™PAIN & SUFFERING IS A TEACHER๐Ÿ™

"Suffering is part of our training program for becoming wise." โ€”Ram Dassโ€”

Suffering is a teacher that offers us life changing lessons which often times cannot be learned any other way.

To me suffering SUCKS (mostly) except where it produces transformation, growth & profound insights to life. There are tons of different ways one may experience suffering but the reality is we all experience it. Try to remember that someone else out there has it worse than you at any given moment. Perspective is everything when it comes to suffering. I have to remind myself every time I get into a "poor me, this is too hard, too much attitude" rather than "what am I learning, what are you teaching me Lord?"

Here are a few things suffering teaches us:

โœจ๏ธResilience and Inner Strengthโœจ๏ธ

Suffering often reveals how strong and resilient we truly are. It pushes us beyond our comfort zones, showing us that we can endure much more than we might have thought. It builds perseverance and the ability to overcome challenges, creating a deeper reservoir of inner strength.

โœจ๏ธEmpathy and Compassionโœจ๏ธ

Through our own pain, we become more compassionate toward others. Suffering opens our hearts to the struggles of those around us, helping us develop a greater capacity for empathy. It allows us to connect on a deeper level with others and offer support in their times of need.

โœจ๏ธHumility and Acceptanceโœจ๏ธ

Suffering teaches us that we cannot control everything in life. It humbles us, reminding us of our vulnerability and limitations. This can lead to greater acceptance of lifeโ€™s unpredictability and an understanding that some things are beyond our control, which fosters peace and patience.

โœจ๏ธAppreciation for Lifeโ€™s Simple Joysโœจ๏ธ

After enduring hardship, we often come out with a heightened appreciation for the simple, beautiful moments in life. Suffering teaches us not to take things for granted and helps us find joy in the present, even in the smallest of blessings.

โœจ๏ธPerspective and Growthโœจ๏ธ

Difficult experiences can shift our perspective, encouraging personal growth and transformation. Suffering forces us to confront our fears, insecurities, or unresolved issues, leading to deeper self-awareness and emotional maturity. It can also prompt us to reevaluate our priorities, guiding us toward a more meaningful life.

โœจ๏ธSpiritual Depthโœจ๏ธ

For many, suffering prompts deep spiritual reflection. It can push us to seek comfort, guidance, or purpose beyond ourselves, often leading to spiritual growth. Whether through faith, meditation, or self-reflection, suffering encourages us to explore life's deeper questions and find meaning in adversity.

โœจ๏ธGratitudeโœจ๏ธ

Once we come through suffering, we often develop a profound sense of gratitude for moments of peace, health, and happiness. We become more grateful for what we have, recognizing the impermanence of life and how fleeting comfort or happiness can be.

Suffering, though painful, can be a powerful teacher. It uniquely transforms us by breaking down our illusions of control, leading us to deeper truths about ourselves and the world. It fosters emotional, psychological, and spiritual growth in ways that joy and ease alone cannot.

When we expect from people what only God can provide, the heart splinters.

MISPLACED TRUST = the act of placing confidence, reliance, or faith in a person, organization, or thing that is/was unreliable, dishonest, or undeserving, often resulting in exploitation, emotional harm, or financial loss.

______________________________________________

Disappointment is often simply misplaced trust. It happens when a belief, expectation, or outcome doesnโ€™t unfold the way we thought....trustedโ€ฆ believedโ€ฆ invested in.

At its root, disappointment often reveals this:

We leaned on our own understanding.
(Proverbs 3:5โ€“6)

We trusted our assumptions about how things โ€œshouldโ€ go. Our heart invested in a specific outcome.

Disappointment can stem from:
โ€ข Unmet expectations/needs
โ€ข Uncommunicated expectations/needs
โ€ข Real or perceived failure, loss, action, inaction
โ€ข Miscommunication
โ€ข Unrealistic hopes or expectations in others
โ€ข Circumstances beyond our control

And yesโ€ฆ it hurts.
But we donโ€™t have to just manage disappointment.
We can confront it, heal it, grow through it, and learn from it.

______________________________________________

Practical approaches or steps that can be helpful in moving past the internally suppressed feelings of disappointment:

1๏ธโƒฃ Acknowledge it
You canโ€™t heal what you wonโ€™t admit.

2๏ธโƒฃ Reflect honestly
Where did expectation exceed reality?

3๏ธโƒฃ Realign trust
Where does trust currently belong for healing to take place?

4๏ธโƒฃ Extract the lesson
Pain is a great teacher, what has this taught me?

5๏ธโƒฃ Seek safe support
Healing accelerates through wise supportive community based relationships.

6๏ธโƒฃ Move forward intentionally
Donโ€™t build a home or camp out in disappointment.

Overcoming disappointment is often a process and you donโ€™t have to walk it alone.

I offer free Inner Healing Coaching sessions (60min guided prayer/coaching calls) for those suffering from the emotional pain of disappointment, shame, or failure. Clients fill out a preliminary worksheet designed to identify root issues and areas that will be focused upon in the coaching call.

"Those who trigger me arenโ€™t my adversaries, theyโ€™re just helping reveal the parts of me that are asking to be healed.โ€
________________________________________

Dr Gabor Mate on TRIGGERS:

โ€œFirst of all thereโ€™s nothing wrong if you get triggered. Thatโ€™s the buzzword these days. Thatโ€™s perfectly alright. But on the other hand. For the person being triggered, you might want to consider what a trigger actually is.

So, the metaphor comes from what? It comes from weaponry. It comes from instruments of war. And the trigger is actually a very small part of the mechanism.

In the gun, or the r***e, or the pistol, or the revolver, or machine gun, thereโ€™s a whole mechanism to deliver the am******on. Thereโ€™s the am******on itself. Thereโ€™s something explosive that will propel the am******on to the target. Then thereโ€™s the trigger which is (this big).

Whenever you get triggered, somebody pulled that trigger, perhaps.

But whoโ€™s the one carrying the am******on?

Whoโ€™s the one with the mechanism to deliver the am******on?

Whoโ€™s the one with the explosive material inside them?

And where do you want to put your attention?

You want to put your attention on the trigger purely? Or are you curious about what am******on, what explosive material youโ€™re carrying inside?

So triggers are really great to work with, if you want to get to know yourself. And, if you donโ€™t want to get to know yourself, then what we usually do is we just resent whoever did the triggering, and we think they did this to us.

How you handle people who trigger you, thatโ€™s your call, but at least know that youโ€™re the one with all the explosives inside you, and you gain so much liberation, if you find out what that am******on is, and how you got it, and whether you can really diffuse it like you diffuse a bomb. You can actually diffuse the am******on inside of you through getting to know yourself.

And thatโ€™s where freedom actually lies. If nobody had the power to trigger you, not because you were closed down, shut down, and isolated, but because youโ€™re totally aware of yourself, thatโ€™s where the liberation actually is.โ€

- Dr. Gabor Matรฉ
________________________________________

The Core Principle Behind the Metaphor:

A trigger isnโ€™t the weapon. Itโ€™s just the tiny lever. The explosive material? That's:

โ— Unprocessed pain
โ— Old memories
โ— Unmet needs
โ— Shame
โ— Rejection
โ— Abandonment
โ— Fear

The โ€œtriggerโ€ just exposes what was already hidden, tucked away, or suppressed within.

That insight shifts someone from:

Blame mode โ†’ โ€œThey did this to me.โ€ to
Ownership mode โ†’ โ€œWhy did that explode inside of me?โ€

Ownership is where power returns.
________________________________________

This lines up deeply with biblical self-examination:

Psalm 139:23
โ€œSearch me, O God, and know my heartโ€ฆโ€

Triggers become invitations for:

โ— Reflection
โ— Inner healing
โ— Identity correction
โ— Shame exposure
โ— Mind renewal

The goal is to become aware its there, tske responsibility, work toward disarming it, and most importantly initiating the healing process with the Holy Spirit. ๐Ÿ•Šโœจ๏ธ๐Ÿค

________________________________________

Freedom Isnโ€™t Becoming Untriggerable

โœจ๏ธFreedom isโœจ๏ธ

โ— Being aware of your internal explosives
โ— Understanding where they came from
โ— Diffusing them through curiosity and compassion

Thatโ€™s maturity.
Thatโ€™s integration.
Thatโ€™s liberation.

โœจ๏ธAnti-Freedom isโœจ๏ธ

โ— Becoming numb
โ— Avoiding people
โ— Controlling everyone around you
โ— Shutting down emotionally
________________________________________

When triggered, ask:

โ— What exactly am I feeling right now?
โ— How old does this feeling feel?
โ— When have I felt this before?
โ— What belief about myself just got activated?
โ— Is that belief actually true?
โ— Thatโ€™s how you turn reaction into revelation.

________________________________________

โ€œThe size of the reaction often reveals the size of the wound.โ€

โ€œIf Iโ€™m explosively reactive, itโ€™s because something explosive lives in me.โ€

ENTANGLED VS ENGAGED?

"Engaged with the world, but not entangled"
____________________________________________

2 Timothy 2:4 AMP
No soldier in active service gets entangled in the [ordinary business] affairs of civilian life; [he avoids them] so that he may please the one who enlisted him to serve.

2 Timothy 2:4 TPT
For every soldier called to active duty must divorce himself from the distractions of this world so that he may fully satisfy the one who chose him.

Following Christ requires focus, wisdom, discipline, & discernment.

Entanglement is allowing the noise of the world to consume our emotional and mental bandwidth.

The world constantly demands our attention: outrage, comparison, fear, urgency, & attention. But when believers allow worldly affairs to dominate their inner life, clarity erodes & discernment dulls. Our peace & joy is replaced with heaviness, stress, sadness, fear, outrage, anger, & pressure.

Jesus calls us to be engaged, not entangled. We live in the world, we serve people, we work hard but we refuse to let temporary concerns choke out eternal purpose and true to the Spirit.

When our allegiance is clear, our hearts stay light, our decisions & attitudes stay grounded, and our souls remain free.

And when Christ is our highest priority, everything else finds its proper place.

A FEW NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF WORLDLY ENTANGLEMENT:

1. Divided Focus
Entanglement scatters attention. When our minds and emotions are consumed by worldly concerns, spiritual clarity fades. A distracted soldier may still be enlisted, but heโ€™s no longer battle-ready.

2. Diminished Devotion
You cannot fully please two masters of attention. Worldly preoccupation slowly competes with wholehearted obedience. What holds your focus will eventually shape your loyalty.

3. Loss of Discernment
Entanglement dulls spiritual sensitivity. Eternal matters begin to feel distant, while temporary pressures feel urgent. When the temporary becomes urgent, the eternal becomes optional.

4. Emotional Exhaustion
Worldly systems demand more than they can give back. Entanglement drains peace, replaces rest with striving, and creates internal noise. The world promises fulfillment but produces fatigue.

5. Compromised Witness
A soldier entangled looks no different from a civilian. Distinction is lost, and influence weakens.
