Did you know that high summer temperatures can actually change how your medications work? Many prescriptions lose their effectiveness if they are exposed to extreme heat or humidity.

Here is how you can protect your medications this season:

Check the Label: Most medications should be stored between 68°F and 77°F in a cool, dry place.

Avoid the Bathroom: The humidity from showers can degrade pills. Try a bedroom closet or kitchen cabinet away from the stove instead.

Don’t Leave Them in the Car: A parked car can reach dangerous temperatures in minutes. Always take your meds inside with you!

When the summer humidity hits, knowing the warning signs of heat-related illness can save a life. Because seniors regulate body temperature less efficiently, it’s crucial to know what to look out for.

Signs of Heat Exhaustion (Act Fast to Cool Down):

- Heavy sweating or cold, pale, clammy skin
- Dizziness, weakness, or fainting
- Nausea or vomiting

Signs of Heat Stroke (Medical Emergency - Call 911):

- High body temperature (103°F or higher)
- Hot, red, dry, or damp skin
- Confusion, dizziness, or losing consciousness

When heading outside this June, remember the "Three S's" of Sun Safety:
