FATHERHOOD 📿
I know absence well.
And that absence taught me a few things:
how it affects everyone involved differently,
why it occurs,
and how to move with discernment and awareness.
When you grow up experiencing life without something essential,
you learn to recognize it immediately when it’s real.
That’s why I’m sure when I say:
he’s going to be a great dad.
I watched him show up — steady, loving, attentive —
not just for the baby,
but for the mother doing the hardest work of her life.
That kind of presence is fatherhood.

This birth, I witnessed a lot of things:
- My first four-day labor & delivery
- D E E P exhaustion and the frustration that can come with the medicalization and unnecessary interventions of a hospital birth
- The fierce advocacy of self and team when repeatedly faced with opposition and obstacles
- The powerful dynamic of a two-doula team supporting the whole person & the whole family (having the “wright doula” in the room really does matter) 💕
- A woman looking at her partner with a face that says “I’m so happy I made that baby, with that man.”
Birth is complex.
Support, consent, and presence make all the difference — especially when the path isn’t simple.
These moments are why I do this work — to witness, to support, and to hold space for families as they find their way through birth.
Thank you for having me as part of your team, and part of your journey into becoming a family. ♥️

Every birth has a moment that stays with you. For me, with her, it was the moment we realized transition was likely the next step.
She looked at me — exhausted, unsure if she could keep “doing this.”
And of course, I understood.
The doctor came in and said something that brought tears to my eyes:
“Let’s have a baby. Let’s meet him.”
And meet him we did. 🩵
41 hours & 54 minutes.
From the first medical intervention to the arrival of her baby.
In that time, there were waves —
laughter and breath,
pain and pressure,
blood, sweat, and tears.
I am so lucky to have witnessed the strength of a woman earning her title of mother — working for it with everything she had. The sheer will she carried, the trust she placed in her body, and the way she listened — for all 41 hours and 54 minutes.
And in the end, the path shifted.
Labor gave way to surgery, and her baby arrived.
The experience remained whole.
The strength was still hers.
The arrival was still sacred.
Every birth is valid.
Every story deserves to be honored.
And this one was beautiful. 🤍
