I had a PLAN.

I was trying to load the dishwasher with my younger toddler helping.

He decided to climb into the bottom rack instead. 🤣

So much for loading the dishwasher.

That’s toddlerhood. And that’s where language happens.

I had a PLAN.

We went outside with sidewalk chalk. I was ready to draw shapes and write letters…

My toddler? He tried to eat the chalk. 🤣

💦 I had a whole plan for water table play…

My older toddler had a different idea.

He took off his shirt, put it in the water table, wrung it out, and then tried to get his little brother to wear it. 🤣

As both a pediatric SLP and a toddler mom, moments like these remind me that some of the best language learning happens when we follow our child’s lead.

That’s why I created Everyday Language Adventures: Water Activities—to help parents build language during playful, everyday moments.

One word. One BIG win.

Yesterday, my younger toddler had a traffic cone on his head as a “hat.” 😄

A few weeks ago, he would have become frustrated when it fell off.

Instead, he looked at his dad and said:

“Help.”

We’ve been working on that one simple word because I want him to know he can ask for help instead of becoming upset.

As both a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist and a toddler mom, moments like this remind me that communication isn’t about using big words—it’s about having the words you need.

That’s one of the reasons I created Everyday Language Adventures: Daily Routines.

👕 Getting dressed
🚗 Car rides
🍽️ Mealtime
🛁 Bath time
🌙 Bedtime

These everyday moments are some of the best opportunities to model simple, meaningful words like help, more, up, open, and all done.

What’s one new word or phrase your toddler has started saying recently?

I’d love to celebrate with you in the comments! 💜

💜 I thought 19 years as a pediatric SLP had taught me everything about helping toddlers communicate…

Then I became a mom.

Suddenly, I wasn’t just the therapist.

I was the mom trying to fold laundry, make dinner, clean up toys, and soak up every moment with my two toddlers.

That’s when I realized something.

✨ Parents don’t need more to do. They need to know that what they’re already doing matters.

Talking while getting dressed.

Playing outside.

Splashing in the water.

Helping with chores.

Playing together.

Those everyday moments are powerful opportunities to build language.

That realization inspired me to create the Everyday Language Adventures Collection—five digital guides that blend my 19 years as a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist with the lessons I’ve learned as a toddler mom.

Because language doesn’t just grow during therapy.

It grows during everyday life. 💜
