Girl

Here is a black/white photo of a young girl standing behind a glass-top lid to a coffin/casket of a baby. The girl is wearing a crisp, white, formal dress. It features distinct sailor-style design elements or exaggerated, wide rectangular and shoulder flaps. We love her big hair bow tied in the back of hair. Possibly a hallmark accessory for young girls throughout the Edwardian era and into the 1920s.

The child’s coffin is beautifully shaped with a built-in glass viewing panels on the lid. This may be a specialized, expensive piece of craftsmanship compared to a standard, plain wooden box.

The young girl looks directly into the camera lens with an incredibly intense, unflinching stare. Her expression is solemn and serious. Indoor photography at that time was incredibly difficult because indoor spaces were dark. Because cameras required the shutter to stay open for several seconds to let in enough light, the photographer possibly would have instructed the girl to stand perfectly still.

2 Men

Two men appear behind the deceased child. One has deep wrinkles and facial furrows. Both look directly at the photographer/camera with powerful, not-smiling, serious expressions. We can see three fingers resting on the top of the childs head. Their positioning behind the deceased child, and direct gazes gives the photograph a particularly intense visual presence. We also noticed maybe a slight opening and/or tear in the cloth beneath the child.

We wonder what is their relationship to the child?

Felony Abuse Of Co**se

Back in 2025, a Houston embalmer surrendered to authorities after allegedly cutting off a dead man’s p***s and placing it in his mouth upon learning he was a registered s*x offender, according to Harris County court records.

Amber Laudermilk, 34, is charged with felony abuse of co**se following the alleged incident on Feb. 7, 2025 at Memorial Mortuary, which is owned by Claire Brothers Funeral Home.

“This is a vicious, brutal attack of a co**se. The person’s already dead,” Harris County Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen said. “When someone dies, there’s some dignity that should be left... It’s kind of shocking, even to me.”

After allegedly mutilating the co**se, Laudermilk, a licensed Texas embalmer, threatened other employees to not say anything, records show.

The Texas Funeral Service Commission immediately suspended Laudermilk’s license. Her bond was set at $5,000.

We wonder if the embalmer had a past personal experience with abuse.... 🤔

Glass Casket

Here is a photo of a deceased man at a cemetery possibly inside of a what we think is a Clear View glass casket. This Florida-based company holds the U.S. patent for these completely transparent, aviation-grade acrylic viewing caskets. We also noted that both the woman, supposedly the daughter, and the man wear brand name clothing. She also wears brand name 'tennis' shoes.

It's a rather interesting choice for a casket.

Have u ever had a funeral with a clear casket?

PS We are aware there r other stories out there claiming this funeral took place in Africa.

Embalmed By...

Here is a postcard image of two men named Norton & Mitchell standing behind a small table draped with a black cloth. The caption reads "Embalmed by Norton & Mitchell, Oct. 28, 1909, photo taken Nov. 16, 1910". The dog may be a bull terrier or pit bull. Perhaps this photo as done as a marketing advertisement and scientific display for a mortuary school or an embalming fluid company/laboratory.

We may have found a reference to these two men on a funeral home site regarding their history, "...Thomas Mitchell purchase the established Furniture and Undertaking business from James J. Wylie. The firm name is established as Norton & Mitchell. This partnership continued until 1925, at which time Mr. Mitchell wishing to retire because of ill health, sold his interest back to Henry Norton." The funeral home is in Sodus, New York.

Thin

We found this postmortem b/w photo of a mother with her deceased son. It appears to be from the late 1800s early 1900s. She is dressed in mourning. The boy is very thin with virtually minimum fat/muscle on his legs. He holds an object in his hand that we can't quite identify. To us, the look on her face holds her grief.

What do u think was the cause of death?

Coins On Eyes

This is not a real deceased person. It was a photo session. However, it does show an example of numismatic superstition - coin on the eyes.

Shortly after coins were first invented, they began appearing in graves. Some coins were placed on the body, near the hands or over the eyes, others were placed in the mouth. What these coins had in common is that they were of low value.

While placing a coin with a dead body is not commonplace anymore, coins have had uses with regards to death. In Victorian London, silver coins would be placed on the eyes of the dead. This was done to ensure that the deceased’s eyes remained closed and the coins would be removed before viewing or burial.

Coins can also be used to communicate with the living as they visit the dead. On the graves of soldiers, a visitor may place a coin to indicate how they knew them. Pennies are placed by friends, nickels are placed by someone they went to boot camp with, a dime means they served together, and a quarter indicates that they were present at the soldier’s death.

Woman With Kitten

Many family members and friends like to place things that were special to the deceased in the casket. The items may be unique to the family or friends and often communicate info about the personality and life of the deceased. Although we do not personally know the deceased, we think we can glean a little bit of info about who she was when she was alive by observing the items placed inside of the open casket. Of course this is all speculation but here we go:

🙏 She may have been ex-military or she was known to love the USA hence the flag on her left side inside the casket
🙏 The woman may have dressed casually while alive and did not want to be clothed in a fancy formal dress after she passed
🙏 Given a fork is in her hands perhaps she was known among family members as a great cook and loved to go to her home for family gatherings where she cooked/prepared all the food
🙏 She loved cats especially kittens
🙏 She wore glasses
