Empowering Student-Athletes and Their Support Systems Through Mental Wellness This space was created by me! —A licensed master social worker, first-generation college graduate, and passionate advocate for mental wellness particularly for student-athletes, youth, and margin

alized communities. With professional roots in medical, school, and nonprofit settings, I bring over five years of experience supporting children, adolescents, student-athletes, and working professionals through the emotional, mental, and relational challenges that shape everyday life. I'm passionate about bridging the gap in access to mental health care and helping people break through generational cycles, process trauma, and rediscover their sense of purpose. With a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach, my work is rooted in empathy, advocacy, and real-world strategies for lasting change. As a writer, speaker, and social worker in the growing field of sports social work, I am committed to helping student-athletes and their support systems understand that mental health is performance health. Through storytelling, education, and community-building, this page offers a space for dialogue, insight, and connection. Thanks for being here—I hope you’ll stay connected and grow with us!

I am excited to share that I have been selected to present at the 12th Annual Alliance of Social Workers in Sports (ASWIS) Symposium in Las Vegas.

My presentation, Sport Social Work in Action: Bridging Athletics and Social Services, will explore the growing field of sport social work and the important role social workers play in supporting athletes' psychological, social, and emotional well-being.

As sport environments continue to recognize the importance of whole-person wellness, sport social workers are uniquely positioned to integrate clinical practice, advocacy, resource connection, and systems-level support into athletic settings. This presentation will examine the history and foundations of sport social work while highlighting how social workers support athletes through mental health services, identity development, program development, community engagement, and equitable access to resources.

I am honored to contribute to this conversation and help increase awareness of a profession that continues to expand opportunities for supporting athletes both in and out of sport.

Thank you to ASWIS for this opportunity. I look forward to learning, connecting, and sharing with colleagues who are helping shape the future of sport social work.

Today I had the opportunity to share my journey into sport social work, entrepreneurship, and private practice with a group of current and future social workers.

As I reflected on the path that led me here, I was reminded that some of the most meaningful careers are built by combining your passions with your purpose. For me, that has meant bringing together my love for athletics, mental health, and social work to support athletes both in and out of sport.

I am grateful for opportunities to educate others about sport social work, share lessons learned along the way, and contribute to the growth of our profession. Thank you for allowing me to be part of the conversation.

The journey continues.

Last month, Next Play Wellness officially made one year in business.

This first year has been filled with growth, learning, stretching, and building something that means so much to me.

What started as a vision to support mental wellness in athletic spaces has continued to grow into meaningful work with athletes, families, professionals, and the community.

Over the past year, Next Play Wellness has:
• Expanded into workshops, consultations, and mental health trainings
• Created resources focused on performance, emotional wellness, and sport social work
• Presented and engaged in conversations surrounding student-athlete mental health
• Connected with clinicians, schools, coaches, and organizations
• Began supporting athletes through therapy services across Texas
• Continued advocating for the importance of mental health within sports and performance spaces

This year taught me that building a business is not just about growth in numbers. It’s about consistency, purpose, relationships, and continuing to show up even when things feel uncertain.

There were moments of excitement, exhaustion, doubt, and moments that reminded me exactly why I started this journey.

I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported, encouraged, referred, collaborated, shared a post, attended a training, trusted my work, or simply followed along the way.

Year one was about building the foundation.

I’m excited to continue growing, serving, and expanding the impact of Next Play Wellness in the years ahead.

Thank you for being part of the journey.

Athletes deserve spaces that support them beyond performance.

I’m excited to officially announce that Next Play Athlete Wellness Day will be held at the Charles Davis Sportsplex – Red Pavilion in League City, Texas this August.

This community-centered event is being created to support athletes mentally, physically, and emotionally as they prepare for the upcoming school year and sports season.

As a sport social worker and therapist working closely with athletes and families, I’ve seen firsthand how important it is for athletes to feel supported both in and out of sport. My hope is that this event creates space for connection, wellness, education, and community support for athletes and families within our local community.

I’m looking forward to bringing the community together for a meaningful day focused on athlete wellness.

Mother’s Day looks different for every mom.

For some, it’s early mornings, long drives, packed schedules, and showing up no matter how exhausted you are.
For others, it’s carrying the emotional weight of everyone around you while still trying to take care of yourself too.

To the mothers raising athletes:
Thank you for the rides to practice, the sideline encouragement, the post-game talks, the sacrifices no one sees, and the steady presence you provide through wins, losses, pressure, and growth.

So many athletes succeed because someone believed in them before they believed in themselves.

Today is a reminder that your support matters.
Your presence matters.
And you matter outside of what you do for everyone else.

Happy Mother’s Day to the mothers, caregivers, grandmothers, bonus moms, and women who continue to nurture, support, and lead with love.

Take a moment today for yourself.
