Florent Elefteriou, PhD, recently represented Baylor College of Medicine at the 2026 NF Conference, hosted by the Children's Tumor Foundation in Denver, where he presented "Treating the NF1 Skeleton: Promise, Mechanisms, and Translational Barriers."

Dr. Elefteriou shared his lab's work on the etiology of NF1 bone dysplasia and fracture non-union, and discussed how neurofibromin loss affects skeletal cell populations at the earliest stages of bone formation. His research continues to shape our understanding of NF1 as a disorder intrinsic to bone and cartilage, and to point toward translational approaches for patients affected by these skeletal complications.

Fall sports are officially underway, and our Saturday Morning Sports Clinic is back to help student athletes stay healthy and in the game.

Starting August 22, our team at Baylor Medicine San Felipe will offer walk in sports medicine care every Saturday morning through November 7. Walk in athletes from any school are welcome, and no appointment is necessary.

🎾 Tennis is a full body sport that builds strength, agility and cardiovascular endurance. The forced pauses combined with explosive bursts of activity work like high intensity interval training, making it a more efficient workout than steady state cardio like jogging.

Last week, The Joseph Barnhart Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine hosted its Fellowship Scientific Program marking the successful completion of our fellows' training. We were also honored to welcome David M. Lintner, MD, Chief of Sports Medicine at Houston Methodist Hospital and a graduate of our own Sports Medicine fellowship, as our Visiting Professor. Dr. Lintner shared lessons from his distinguished career caring for elite athletes, including his work with the Houston Astros and Houston Texans.
