Happy Father’s Day 🤎

YOU are seen.

Fatherhood is not one story BUT soooo many! It’s shaped by presence, absence, responsibility, grief, and becoming.

Most of it happens without recognition or an audience!

So if someone comes to mind as you read this, send this to them! 🤎

Trust me! It will go a long way!

Sometimes the people who seem strongest are carrying the most.

I’ve been thinking about my own little brother a lot lately, how he’s become one of the people I now lean on, even though I once thought I was the one who needed to look out for him. Watching him navigate fatherhood, work, school, and life with so much strength has made me more intentional about how we talk about men and mental health.

We don’t always ask the right questions, and we don’t always check in beyond “you good?” BUTTTTT we should.

I’m honored to be a facilitator alongside Dre Johnson, Consultant at an upcoming Men’s Mental Health Panel where he is creating a space dedicated to honest conversations about Black men, healing, fatherhood, identity, pressure, masculinity, and the weight so many men carry silently.

If you’ve ever wondered what the men in your life are really holding in… this conversation is for you.

Let’s do better for our men! Plzzzz and than you! 🤎

One thing that I’m learning in this season is that not every pivot is a setback.

Sometimes it’s a sign that something bigger is unfolding!

One of the biggest reasons forgiveness feels so hard is because many of us were taught that forgiveness means access.

Access to our time.
Access to our emotions.
Access to the same version of us that existed before we got hurt.

But forgiveness and reconciliation are not the same thing.

You can forgive someone and still need boundaries.
You can forgive someone and still feel grief.
You can forgive someone and decide the relationship needs different terms.

Sometimes forgiveness isn’t about changing the relationship.

It’s about changing your relationship to what happened.

What’s something you had to unlearn about forgiveness? ⬇️ Share below!

You are right! They didn’t protect you the way you needed or deserved.

You also don’t want to cut them off.

I hear you, and I want you to know that there is a way to determine if remaining in proximity to your parents is even healthy for you. There is a way to do this without choosing between your peace or your folks.

Coming from a collective culture, I understand why cutting off your parents doesn’t feel like the answer. But I want you to know that you do have to release the version of your parents that’s holding you back.

You have to grieve what you didn’t get. Not for them, but for you.

If you attend the first workshop of the series, we will name the hurt and gain tools to process the emotions.

Do this for yourself! 🤎

Many of my clients struggle because they can name that their parents provided for them… while also grieving the ways they were emotionally absent.

So instead of processing the impact, they rationalize it.

Or they want to set a boundary around their time, energy, or finances and immediately feel guilty for even needing one. Like they’re a bad daughter.

And in some therapy spaces that aren’t culturally informed, the answer becomes: “Just cut them off.”

But that’s not always realistic and most importantly, it’s not even what they want.

The goal is not a perfect relationship. But peace on your own terms.

I believe there is space to:
✨name the hurt
✨grieve what you didn’t receive
✨forgive without minimizing
✨redesign the relationship so it no longer requires survival mode

That’s why Debbie’s words in this video resonate so deeply with me.

This is why I created the Mama & Me workshop series this June.

Because I want women to stop surviving their relationship with their mother or caretaker and start deciding: Do I want this relationship? And if I do… what are the terms? 🤍
