Atkinson is a practicing physical therapist with 40 years of experience in the evaluation and treatment of neck and back pain due to both mechanical spinal dysfunction, trauma and post-surgical cases. She is a McKenzie-certified practitioner, skilled in conducting mechanical evaluation of the spine and proximal joints (shoulders, knee and hips) and determining the optimal treatment strategy for ea

ch patient. In the 90’s, she took the McKenzie Institute Mechanical spinal curriculum and passed her certification in mechanical diagnosis and therapy in 1998. In October 1999, she was approved as a Clinical Level III therapist, the highest level of clinical expertise recognized at present at TIRR Rehabilitation Centers (where she ran the spinal clinic from 1996-2001). Since June 2001, she has returned to private practice. She continues to focus exclusively on spinal pain disorders. She is a member of APTA, APTA Orthopedic section, TPTA, American Back Society, McKenzie Institute, USA, and other professional organizations.
