This photo, taken at our funeral home in the historic Fourth Ward of Houston, captures my father, Jimmie H. Pruitt, hard at work at his desk.

During this era, Jimmie carried forward the proud tradition of the Pruitt family’s commitment to funeral service, guiding families through some of their most difficult moments with compassion, dignity, and professionalism.

The Fourth Ward, with its rich cultural history and strong community bonds, was the foundation for so much of our work. From this very office, countless arrangements were made, lives were honored, and families were comforted.

Today, we stand on the shoulders of pioneers like Jimmie H. Pruitt, ensuring that the legacy of care and service that began here continues to thrive across Houston.

On a calm day in 1983, a small snippet back in history as a few giants from the community spoke, Jimmie H Pruitt, pastor Samuel Smith, Frank Jones(This is it) and Melanie Lawson reporting directly from the bricks-The Phillipon name was one of the strongest land owners in the community and this is the history of the transition of the 4th ward community.

n the early 1980s, Mr. Pruitt acquired the building on 3521 Live Oak Street in Houston’s historic Third Ward. His vision was to create a space that would provide compassionate funeral services to the surrounding community. Though this building never opened as a funeral home under his ownership, it symbolized his commitment to bringing service to different parts of Houston.
Later, Mr. Pruitt shifted focus and relocated to a new site, leaving the Live Oak Street property behind. This building was eventually acquired by Trinity United Methodist Church, where it remains a cherished landmark to this day.

Today, on Veterans Day, we pause to honor the memory of a remarkable man, Jimmie H. Pruitt. Jimmie dedicated his life to both his country and his community, beginning his service in the United States Air Force on February 3, 1951. Throughout his life, he embodied the values of honor, duty, and compassion — not only in his military service but also as a beloved funeral director.

Jimmie’s legacy in our community remains strong, as he spent decades providing comfort and support to families during their times of need. His commitment to service, whether through his military duty or his role in our profession, inspires us all.

Today, we salute you! Your life’s work and sacrifices are forever remembered. Thank you for your service and dedication. 🇺🇸🕊️
