Hands-On Learning in Molecular Genetic Technology!

Our students in the Molecular Genetic Technology program completed an exciting laboratory experience in reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR)!

RT-PCR is an important laboratory technique that converts RNA into complementary DNA (cDNA) and then amplifies that DNA for analysis. This powerful technology is used to detect viruses, measure gene expression, and help diagnose disease. Imagine trying to read a single word in a huge book. RT-PCR helps scientists "zoom in" and make that tiny piece of information easier to see and understand.

These hands-on, interactive laboratory experiences give our students valuable skills they can apply in real-world clinical and molecular diagnostic settings.

After completing their coursework, our students will participate in clinical rotations in Summer 2027, and will become board certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)! We're proud to be training the next generation of molecular laboratory professionals!

Peter Hu receives International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science Fellowship Award

We are extremely proud to share that Peter Hu, Ph.D., professor, School of Health Professions, has received an International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science (IFBLS) Fellowship Award!

The award recognizes visionary leaders who have made significant contributions to both the IFBLS and Biomedical Laboratory Science (BLS) as an educator, clinician, researcher, advocate or administrator. Selected fellows are recognized for their commitment to excellence in the field and may use the credential of FIFBLS.

Within IFBLS, Dr. Hu serves on the Scientific Network of Experts, acting as a global voice for biomedical laboratory scientists and assisting and advising the board of directors on scientific matters, document reviews and projects. He is also a scientific expert for the World Health Organization (WHO) through IFBLS’s official relations, providing support for WHO initiatives, global health security and laboratory medicine standards. He previously represented the Americas as one of two delegates to the IFBLS General Assembly.

At the School of Health Professions, Dr. Hu serves as associate dean of research and strategic initiatives and program director of the Molecular Genetic Technology and Diagnostic Genetics and Genomics programs.

The IFBLS is an association of national societies focused on promoting, advancing and supporting high-quality laboratory practice, professional development, ethical standards and collaboration across the global healthcare community. It represents more than 240,000 biomedical laboratory scientists in 38 countries.

New Radiation Therapy students are working hard to learn skills that will prepare them for clinical education!

Radiation Therapy students are learning everything from common treatment devices, practicing tattooing bananas (to ensure precise positioning for each radiation treatment), patient transfer, treatment setups, triangulation, and many other important clinical concepts related to radiation therapy delivery.

We are excited to see their progress as they prepare for the next step in their education at the School of Health Professions.
