Frequently, I travel to Galveston to work at Shriners Children’s, performing cleft lip and cleft palate surgery. Each time, I’m reminded of what this town has survived when I go out to grab a bite to eat.

These markers show the water levels from previous hurricanes that have hit the island, and as you can see, Hurricane Ike still holds the record. I cannot even imagine the water reaching this level. When I point out these markers to people visiting Galveston for the first time, they’re always shocked to see just how high the water rose above street level!

Why does the abdomen look so swollen before liposuction even begins? 💧

It’s all part of the process. Before performing tumescent liposuction, Dr. Payne introduces tumescent fluid into the treatment area to prepare it for the procedure. The temporary swelling you see is expected and plays an important role in how the surgery is performed.

Lip Reduction Before & After 👄

Not every lip transformation is about going bigger. For some patients, the goal is exactly the opposite.

This patient underwent lip reduction surgery to reduce excess volume and bring the upper and lower lips into better proportion with the rest of the face. The difference is especially noticeable when smiling, where the lips have a more refined contour while still looking completely natural to the patient.

That’s really the goal with lip reduction. Not to erase what makes someone’s features distinctive, but to reshape and refine the lips so they feel more balanced with everything around them.
